Concert Report: Mozart Symphony No. 40 The western classical concert that I have chosen to review is A Tale of Two Symphonies. This concert is performed in the Avery Fisher hall within the Lincoln Center in New York City. It was performed on July 29, 2008. The orchestra that is performing is the 42nd Mostly Mozart Orchestra. The conductor is Louis Langrée. The two pieces being performed in this concert is Mozart's Symphony No. 40 and Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. The first piece that was played was Mozart’s Symphony No.40. This is a beautiful piece of music. There are 38 players in the orchestra for this piece. And they all played beautifully together. I love the rich and sharp sounds of the violins they blended in well with the rest of the orchestra. The string set the mood for the rest of the song.
The second piece of music played was Das Lied von der Erde (song of the Earth) by composer Gustav Mahler. This is also a beautiful piece of work. There are fourteen players in the orchestra which is a chamber group for this piece which includes a piano and two keyboards side by side one is a celesta and the other is an organ. There are also two voices in this piece the first is tenor Paul Groves and soprano Anna Larson. The thing that I liked about this song is how the voices and the instruments coordinate so well with one and other. Another thing I liked was hearing the horns in the very beginning of the song. I feel that the thirty eight performers that performed in the first piece which was Mozart’s Symphony No.40 in G minor did an exceptional job. They had perfect rhythm and pitch throughout the whole song. The outcome of having perfect pitch produced a beautiful melody. This song was rich with texture. I also am impressed with the fact that the conductor Louis Langrée conducted this piece from memory without using any sheet music. This is a perfect

On October 19, 2013 I sought out to listen to some classical music for my review for class. It was a pleasure to have found the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, FL, a part of St. Luke’s concert series of 2013-14 that has been held in the last nineteen years here in Oviedo, FL. This free event that’s held each year at St. Luke church holds about three hundred people in there sanctuary, everything in the décor speak to your imagination Lutheran church. It was very nice it reminded me of a small concert hall. The orchestra fill the whole area were the choir usually sit. Christopher Wilkins, he conductor along within a full orchestra and Rimma Bergeron–Langlois the violinist, who all played four great suites from the genius of Georges Bizet, the piece from L’Arlesienne, Carmen suite, and Carmen fantasies, and Symphony in C’ that took you back in time. This classical music from the romantic era was breath taking.…

The first song was titled “Fanfare for Saint Cecilia.” This piece was composed for Saint Cecilia on a special occasion called “Three Countries Day.” This is an example like we talked about in class where a composer had a job of composing music for a certain event because prerecorded music wasn’t available at that time. The song had a magnificent and triumphant feel to it with many brass heavy parts specifically trumpet. Woodwinds played the accompaniment underneath but were not heard exclusively. Some parts I liked about this piece was the overall excitement that it had and the energy that the ensemble put into it. It was very easy to tell that the instrumentalists enjoyed playing the song.…

I am a casual listener because I like having music playing, filling the environment with sounds. I can listen to music while studying and sleeping, and I like listening to music because it can make me relax and ignore the noise that around me. I attended the concert on October 5 at 8:00pm. Contrapunctus XIX, from The Art of the Fugue, BWV 1080 by Johann Sebastian Bach, Metamorphosen by Richard Strauss and Symphony No.7 in A major, Op.92 by Ludwig Van Beethoven were performed. The style of Contrapunctus XIX, from The Art of the Fugue, BWV 1080 is set progresses to double, triple, and mirror fugues, culminating in a quadruple fugue. Metamorphosen is a memorial elegy. Symphony No.7 in A major, Op.92 is in four movements, Poco sostenuto - Vivace, Allegretto, Presto and Allegro con brio.…

During the concert, the band played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, William Tell Overture, and Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique. The music was excellent and played with much expertise. Each piece was performed well. I enjoyed listening to the extravagant music with very few mistakes.…

The first piece that was played was Negro Folk Symphony by William Dawson. The piece started out conjunct and smooth. A solo part was played by the woodwinds, and were accompanied by the strings. The pace was andante but had a piano sound to it. After a brief moment, the strings changes the mood and kicks it to a forte and crescendos to a sudden pause. A solo part is now played by oboes and are accompanied with strings playing in an allegro form. This makes the music interesting. The flutes support the harmony with the oboes which brought in the whole orchestra to a vivace tempo. percussions can be heard at this point because they are playing at a fortissimo volume. The orchestra now is playing at forte exception of the percussions. Towards the end, the music starts going to adagio and gradually goes to diminuendo to end the piece. I enjoyed it as a opener because it kept me interested and yearning…

The first song I heard is Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It is written at 1880, a romantic period music. It is a sonata allegro form, which consist an exposition, a development, and a recapitulation. However, it is hard for me to find connection between three parts when I was at the concert. Moreover, I did not realize there is three parts until I did the research after the concert. I was really into music and picturing the Romeo and Julia scene in my mind when I heard the symphony playing this piece.…

The first half of the performance was a complete orchestra of woodwinds, strings, drums, brass, excreta and a four part choir. Overall the performance took no longer than thirty minutes to play the three-part Symphony of Psalms. This Symphony was much shorter than I was expecting. The symphony had the most soft and sweet chords following up with big, bold parts. The tempo would slow down just the slightest bit, the calm before the storm there was a bang of sound ringing from all around you and your almost startled but it is so lovely even at the volume and mixture of instruments you cant help but feel relaxed in the flow of notes.…

Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria on January 27, 1756. The viola player tapping the viola with the bow to make a sound like blink blink blink was creative in my eyes. It was interesting to see a beautiful piece played with only three instruments. The song is so beautiful that it sounds like music you would hear in a fairy tale forests. I liked the piece “Soft Watches” by Ileana Perez-Valazquez. It was a creative and fun idea to make the piece based off the painting Salvador Dali’s famous painting “Persistence of Memories”.…
