Concert Paper One

By definition, music refers to an art whose medium is sound and silence. On the other hand, art refers to a skill, being able to do something in a way that the majority will appreciate. It is acquired through knowledge and talent too. In this context therefore, I am going to give insights on various aspects of music giving major attention to classical music as the major point of interest and its due application in real life concert I attended. Classical music is specific to its origin and major target group just as any other music. It is a form of music which is westernized in its traditional considerations and encompasses a broad period. It is mainly distinguished from other forms of music in its way of staff notation which has been consistent since its existence. The main considerations of the mentioned staff notations are speed, pitch and meter of the singer or performer to the audience as this is aimed at capturing the attention of the audience while ensuring that the fun in the music lasts a considerable time not only for the concert alone but also for the future of the artist in the business as this at times acts as their fixed or quit basis. The concert in question was a performance by Jill Scott and Anthony Hamilton at the Verizon. It is worth to note that Jill Scott is an American with different music credentials ranging from R&B singer, songwriter, poet, actress and American soul music (Wikipedia). Due to her expertise she has appeared in various performances in both music and acting. If to mention, she won various awards including the Grammy awards in her music career which shows that she is a great force to reckon with in the industry. In this concert however, she featured an R&B group from Minneapolis for the

When I think Woodstock, I think of more than a moment in time, more than just 500,00+ kids gathering to take in one area to listen to great music. When I think of Woodstock, I think of a revolution, or even a legacy that changed the way that people lived their lives. Something significent that I learned about woodstock is that it was moved 31 days before the fastival started. That must have been more then a wrench in their operations. They were expecting over 200,000 people whom most already bought tickets, and instead of giving up, found a better place within hours. I feel like thats dedication, and It could have set the tempo for the 'love' feeling that this culture was adapting. Michael Lang held his composure and handled everything with good vibes which was perfect for the theme of this “woodstock generation”.…

During the Great Age of Vienna, there were four predominant music styles, being Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. The Classical period, lasting from around 1750 to 1820, is very well-known. It was named for the admiration and appreciation of classic art and literature from centuries ago. Many people around the world are familiar with the Classical period, as it is extremely well-known for its extraordinary talented and famous composers and performers. How have you been? Hope everything is will with you and your family. You and I haven’t had much time to speak these past few weeks, so I decided to write you this letter in order to update you on the current events that have occurred in my life recently. Two days ago, I attended a baroque sinfonia at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, directed by Adam Gilbert, director of the early music program. The program consisted of selections from The Fairy Queen, originally composed by Henry Purcell. The overall performing environment was quite outstanding. It was great that the performers were on an elevated stage, making it much easier to see and hear them. It’s always crucial to be able to make eye contact with the performers in order to establish a personal connection with them. The event was very well attended. All the seats were practically filled causing some of the audience to stand up because there was no room. Overall, the audience seemed to be educated and had a great deal of knowledge on the music that was being performed. Also, the musical program was well organized, being consisted of five acts. The program passed out to the audience consisted a libretto, a text of all the words and stage directions of a piece, which made it much more easier to understand what was occurring on stage at the moment. The instruments I encountered at this concert were the violin, viola, cello, violone, harpsichord, lute, theorbo, guitar, oboe, bassoon, trumpet and recorder. Fortunately, I had learned about most of these instruments and what they sound like in my music class, so I was able to identify which instrument was being played at a certain time.…

The album that I chose to review for this project is my favorite Pink Floyd album, Dark Side of the Moon. Pink Floyd is a four piece psychedelic rock band that originally consisted of Roger Waters on the bass guitar and vocals, Nick Mason on the drums, Richard Wright on the keyboard and backing vocals, and Syd Barrett on vocals and guitar who was eventually replaced with the legend that is David Gilmore. The album was recorded in June 1972 – January 1973 at the Abbey Roads Studios in London England. This was Pink Floyds sixth studio album eighth overall and was released in March of 1973 and was a great success “Topping the billboard charts for one week it remained on the charts for 741 weeks…. With an estimated 45 million copies sold.” (Wikipedia)…

Right I as I stepped into the theater, I took note of how fast people were rushing to get a good view to see the performance. The seating was structured as all standing and there was a second floor balcony. My ticket was ground floor only there was a pit closer to the stage and a raised area behind the pit. I literally stood right next to the lights director which was located in the raised area that was directly centered across from the band. Unfortunately, I was not able to be with the entire group of friends that also went to the concert. There were four of us by the lights director and the other twelve were in the pit. The age of the general audience was from 15 to 25 although there were was more females than males in attendance.…
