Concentration Camp Reflection
World War II has always been a fascination of mine. I would chose to spend a day with a Holocaust survivor to learn about the terrors that they were forced to endure during the war. The knowledge that is released to the public is limited in number with actual evidence of the survivors. We can read about what it would have been like, but to experience it with someone first hand is worth so much more. I understand that these people were taken out of their homes, forced to wear identification badges to stand out in public, and give up their rights and freedoms. No person can possibly understand what they went through, but by having some central ideas people could have sympathized more with them. These survivors would have felt that they had real friends who wanted to make life easier. This is why I want to gain insight into what life was truly like.

I would be selective on my questions in fear of bringing back dreaded memories. Learning about simple things like what they ate, clothes they were expected to wear, and friends they acquired while living there would provide a great deal of insight. I cannot image the hardships that they faced while in the camp, but I’m sure relationships were formed with people who were in the same predicaments. I would want to get a grasp of what their life was like before hand to understand the drastic changes that were implemented during World War II. Where they came from, how many siblings did they have, and what their family did to provide income would be just a few questions. Each family that was transported to these concentration camps had different challenges, and to be able to comprehend these would be beneficial to these survivors
