Establishing and maintaining a safe healthy learning environment is very important to the welfare of the children in our care. Failure to maintain these standards can result in injury or illness that could have been avoided. I establish and maintain a safe healthy learning environment by checking the safety of playground equipment, checking the classroom for debris and hazards, by regularly washed and sanitizing toys and shelving, and by providing affection. Everyday when my class goes outside, I check the safety of the playground equipment by making sure there is no water on any surfaces. I also make sure that the slide is not too hot for the children to touch. I make sure none of the equipment is falling apart and has no sharp edges I regularly check to make sure my classroom is free of any debris or hazards by making sure any toys in the main traffic areas are picked up, so no children or parents will trip over them. I make sure that all toys are not broken and all battery covers are attached correctly. In addition, I out all the cleaning supplies in a locked cabinet when they are not being used. Washing and sanitizing toys and shelves is done daily in my classroom. I currently teach one year olds and they love to put things in their mouths. If I see a child with a toy in their mouth, I put it in our dirty toy bin when I see they are done playing with it to be washing at the end of the day. Once a week all of the toys and shelves are cleaned with a sanitizing agent and every night they are spreayed with disinfectant before I leave my classroom. I love to be affectionate with the children in my classroom. Because they are so young they love to be cuddled and hugged often. I also show them affection by giving them high fives and praising them when they make good choices. In
