Comparison In Hebrews
Throughout the course of Hebrews chapter one, the reoccurring theme is Jesus, the Son of God is placed higher up then the angels. (Hebrews 1:4). Usually, when one thinks of a comparison, people think of how one is better than the other. However, Thompson rebuttals this theory by pointing out, “The author’s comparison can best be understood when we consider the role of comparison in Hebrews and in ancient rhetoric.” (Thompson, p. 40). When a comparison is used as a rhetorical device during this time period, it is done so to show honor to the object being compared, not to devalue its’ counterpart. This has altered my own perception of comparison, normally when I have either heard it, or used it myself in the past it has been done so to show how

    The Holocaust in a whole is about people trying to survive. Both “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” and “A Survivor Remembers” tell a story about a survival, only each story has a different survival. In the story “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” by Arnold Geier the general topic is to escape while he still can. The general topic in “A Survivor Remembers” is going day by gruesome day till you can’t anymore. These topics are different but yet the same; they both deal with some sort of survival. Mister Geier in “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” survives not being taken by the Nazis and avoids the terrifying events that could have happened to him but have happened to millions of others. Berek Laturas in “A Survivor Remembers” is a different kind of survivor. He went through all of the horrible events of the Holocaust but somehow by the end of the war he survived it all, which six million others didn’t. The occasion of both stories is almost the same. They both took place in Germany and during the Hitler era. However in “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” it was only at the rise of Hitler, “A Survivor Remembers” was throughout all the events of the Holocaust.…

    The American dream is a symbol of hope, empowering the characters to endure the tribulationsof life. In Of Mice and Men, protagonists Lennie and George have created an American dreamthat one day they will "have a bigvegetablepatch and a rabbit hutch and chickens. We can make maybe a couple of dollars a day there, and we might hit a pocket [SIC]" (33).The dream creates an impetus for Lennie and George to stay within the intolerableconfines of farm to earn the money necessary to attain their dream.     Advancements in technology are supposed to make our lives easier. The time it takes for us to travel to another destination continues to shorten. Computers continue to advance at a rapid pace. Communicating with family and friends from another country has become easier than ever. It would seem as if everything is perfect. However, that is not the case at all. The irony of it all is that inventions that were supposed to make us connected to people close to us have actually had the opposite effect. Two writers attempted to explain this phenomenon in their essays. “The Flight from Conversation”, by Sherry Turkle, explains how and why people are shying away from real life conversations because of gadgets and the internet. “The Multitasking Generation”, by Claudia Wallis, explores the same subject, but she goes a step further and discusses a more serious problem: Multitasking is actually making us more distant and less efficient.
