Comparison Between 'Flight Of Icarus And'

This essay belongs in my book because I got to compare two different styles of writing. I like the story of Icarus and seeing it in different writing styles made me think. I loved being able to compare the same story told a different way. It opened my eyes on the changes a story can have based on the writing style. Flying Free
Poetry and Folktales are two very different styles of writing. They represent ideas and thoughts in different ways. The genre of the folktale “The Flight of Icarus” and the poem “Icarus’s Flight” affect how the reader sees the same story. In “The Flight of Icarus” there is more than one character revealed. Daedalus and Icarus are the two characters in the folktale. Daedalus is the father and Icarus is the son. Daedalus is revealed as the strong, brave father who will rescue both of them. Icarus is described as a foolish boy who can’t follow the rules. He is foolish enough to melt his wings. In the folktale it says, “Icarus played about on the beach …show more content…
“Icarus’s Flight” and “The Flight of Icarus” both represent the consequence of freedom in their own way. In “The Flight of Icarus” and “Icarus’s Flight” the wings in the story represent the rise to freedom. They started off small and weak. After a while they grow into something mighty enough to get you off of the “island”. Once they get the wings and take off there was no stopping them. They were gone for good. Daedalus made the right decision and didn’t get too rambunctious and stayed in the perfect spot. Icarus liked the feeling too much and went overboard. In “Icarus’s Flight” it states “He now had his answer, laws to uphold him in his downward plunge” (Dobyns 18-19). Icarus past the point of freedom. His choice left the ones who loved him in shambles. In the folk tale it says, “Weeping bitterly, he buried his small son and called it Icaria in his memory” (Benson 34). Icarus’s choice to fly away left his family
