Animal Farm Comparison and Contrast Essay
The novel, Animal Farm and the movie both contain many similarities and differences. Many of the differences come from the movie. The movie, Animal Farm, has a lot more detail and events added to it. For example, Old Major’s death. In the beginning of the movie, as Old Major is finishing his speech, he tumbles out of the barn, and falls to his death. In the novel, Old Major dies three nights after his big speech. He doesn’t fall to his death, but instead he dies in his sleep. Unlike the novel, in the movie the song, “Beasts of England” has a different tune to it. The novel explains that the song goes something along to the tune of La Cucaracha and Clementine. A couple of similarities are also seen. For example the Rebellion. Old Major talks about his dream, and the big plans for the Rebellion. Everything goes according to plan. Farmer Jones goes out with his friends, gets drunk, and when he comes back to Manor Farm, he forgets to feed the animals. The animals haven't eaten all day, they become aggravated and angry. They chase Farmer Jones, his wife, and the other farmers out of the farm. Another similarity would include the situation with the milk and apples. Squealer, one of the pigs who helps Napoleon run the farm, makes up a story about how the pigs need the milk and apples more than any other animal. Even though the pigs do less work than any other animal, Squealer is somehow able to convince the other animals to let them continue to keep the apples and milk for themselves. In the novel, as well as in the movie, the animals prepare for the human invasion. Snowball comes up with a plan to help keep the enemy (humans) away. Everything is set in motion with the help of Snowball's plan. The animals are able to chase the men away. This battle would later be called Battle of the Cowshed.
