Comparison and Contrast between Chinese and English Education Cultures

Abstract: The difference between Chinese and British education will bring a huge impact on the will-be overseas Chinese students. By illustrating Chinese and British education culture differences in learning methods, center of class, teaching approaches, and the importance attached to teachers and textbooks, this article aims to provide students who desire to study in the UK with awareness of education culture differences and make good psychological preparations.
Key Words: Chinese/ British education cultures; differences; reasons This summer, I took part in the University of Manchester summer exchange program. During the one-month period, I have some understanding about the education of the British education system, educational development and make some comparison combined with practical education in China.
1. Differences
1. 1 The education system From the management system, our country implements the nine-year compulsory education. In the United Kingdom, 12 years of compulsory education, public schools and church schools (including schools for girls) are free admission. Most private schools offer a better quality of education, so fees are relatively high. Pupils who want to attend university have to carry on their academic study in the sixth form for a further two years and then sit A-levels exams (General Certificate of Education-Advanced). Most pupils try to achieve 3 or 4 A-levels in the subjects they are most proficient at. Since admittance to universities depends largely on A-level results, the two years spent in the sixth form are very important and often very stressful for them. From the examination system, China's implementation is divided by the total score and often inaccessible to students with the expertise thus the universities will refuse the

    In “The Educated Giant” written by Nicholas D. Kristof, he explains why China is likely to over take the United States as the worlds most important country of the century due to its large focus on education. In the article, Kristof talks about his trip to China and the education system he observed.     Abstract: The relationship between language and culture is deeply rooted. Language is used to maintain and convey culture and cultural ties. Different ideas stem from differing language use within one’s culture and the whole intertwining of these relationships start at one’s birth. The dialectical connection between language and culture has always been a concern of L2 teachers and educators. Whether culture of the target language is to be incorporated into L2 teaching has been a subject of rapid change throughout language teaching history.
