The moment when I glanced at this painting my first question was “where are these people heading?” I believe they are going to work, home, school or want to take a walk in the city. One thing that made me stop was that everyone is just sitting down minding their own business focused reading the daily newspaper. Nobody is socializing with each other and I wonder why? Maybe it’s just their only time to sit around and have quiet time. From being so busy all day, maybe they are just starting their day and want to take a look of what’s going on in the world by reading the paper or it is possible that they don’t know each other. I really don’t know, I’m just inferring. The Ladies and Gentlemen sitting in the train look so elegant and the designs of the transportation makes it look luxuries. It looks antique but glamorous. I ask myself “what it would be like to live in a different era?” Having to use the metropolitan rail journeys and living in a big city like London.…
Much of the artworks that came out of the colonial period is the outcome of the diversity of the developing culture that is known today. European art styles came to the new world and had a very big influence on painters, sculptors, and architect. For example, the Baroque style when Baroque came to the new world in the seventeenth century who could tell its European roots, but by the eighteenth century it developed into its own new world Baroque. I feel that the painting Lady of Our Sorrows, shows this culture blending that was happening between old world ideas and the new world ideas. Many art technique came from the gilds across New Spain.…

The Renaissance portrait we are going to look at in this post is the Old Man with His Grandson by Domenico Ghirlandaio. This painting looks very average and boring to a person today who is not interested in art or just looking at it for the first time, but the painting of the Old Man with His Grandson was a revolutionary painting by Ghirlandaio in the late fifteenth century. Ghirlandaio along with Raphael, Jan van Eyck, and others started to introduce individuality and add values to their paintings; you can see examples of this in the Old Man with His Grandson. The first thing that will notice is that the painting does not look flat like most of the early paintings did; you see a 3D or lifelike image of the grandfather looking down at his grandson. The detail gets better when you see the waves in the hair of the grandfather and even the wrinkles of his nose; this is a big change in style from Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Second we can see that Ghirlandaio brings a sense of life to this painting and not just a dull portrait. You can really get a sense of what is going on in this painting by looking at the faces of the grandfather and grandson. The people do not have a blank expression on their face; to me, they are looking at each other with love, compassion and trust. You can also see that life is going on outside with a look through the window next to the grandfather, another value that was not represented in earlier paintings. Overall, this painting and other painted at that time give us a good look into the beginning of Renaissance values and how they have shaped what we do today.…
A simple oil painting made in 1654 on an unknown canvas medium, it is encased in a golden frame with intricate carvings that seems to resemble plant patterns. The overall artwork’s visual is mainly comprised of earth tone colors ranging in hues and shades, six people from what seems to be the lower class, excluding the dog, present in an area with rugged lands, a lake,…
I think this medieval art in a way relates to the story “A good man is hard to find” because in the book the family is going on vacation to Florida but the grandma doesn’t want to go there and tries to convince her son not to go there, during the trip it talks about how now a days we can’t trust no one “These days you don’t know who to trust…” and the grandma talks about how she can “remember the day you could go off and leave your screen door unlatched. Not no more.” The waitress also says “it isn’t a soul in this green world of God’s that you can trust…” and in the painting the general trusted this women who he just met and invited her to his party and it just got him killed. Towards the end of the book they have a car accident but they are fine and the car is messed up. They see a car driving slowly on the road and the grandma “waved both arms dramatically to attract their attention” so they can help them. But it turns out to be the Misfit, who escaped from the federal pen, and he ended up killing all of them. So in both stories they…

The Neoclassic era of art reflected resurgence in the interest of the Greek and Roman Eras. People of this time were interested in seeing woman as more upstanding. They were also going back to a high moral tone, recognizing civic duty and virtue in people and society as a whole. The art piece The Emperor Napoleon and His Study at the Tuileries by Jacques Louis David is a reflection of this time and the art. The artist, David, was active in the French Revolution of the time and saw Napoleon as a savior of France. The artwork displays the virtue and civic of a Neoclassical piece. It displays Napoleon as a soldier, emperor and administrator, with the highest regards. There is a lot of symbolic symbols and iconography in this work; the uniform, the clock, a sword, campaign maps and rolled papers or the Code of Napoleon. All of these things recall moral rights, since he was regarded so highly by the artist. The Line is classical, simple and ordered. There is linear perspective through spatial depth. The piece is represential. The light in this painting has great contrast and controls what we see. Napoleon and the pieces of iconography are a focal point while being well balanced in the picture.…
The artwork most likely symbolize unity of social class or the absolute abandonment of it, because it a mixture of common, rich, and militarize people together on a sunny sunday. Everyone seems to belong in the painting and also even communicating together. The social class was an upset balance to systems in the past even causing revolutions like the French Revolution of 1848 where peasants created an uprising to kill all filthy rich family including children. The artwork was creating in the same 19th century supporting the fact that it may be a social class problem. The beauty of peace between class and nature is significance of unity together and not against. Nevertheless it an act of society well-balanced without class interfering with joy or…
As in Noah’s Ark, there is the evidence of acknowledgment of Egyptian wall paintings which ties into African heritage. The most prominent part of the painting is the story being told through the figures in the foreground. Starting on the left, the story begins with the slave worker in the fields picking cotton. As the story transitions to the right, the figures are no longer hunching over, but are standing tall and willing to fight for their freedom. In the background are the silhouettes of the armies that fought for and against the abolishment of slavery. The center figure, through the use of Art Deco inspired geometric shapes becomes the focal point, is pointing towards the north to lead the southerners to their economic freedom. Lastly, on the right side of the painting, emphasizes the cultural rebirth black Americans found in the…

The painting is inspired by the view outside of van Gogh’s asylum room in Saint-Rémy-De-Province, with an addition of an ‘ideal village’ taking up space in the downward periphery of the artwork. There are small houses and buildings drawn at the bottom of the painting, a half crescent moon at the top right corner and the depiction of a church with a broad steeple.…
The Red Vineyard of Vincent Van Gogh was the only painting sold by him during his lifetime. Looking at the painting, you can feel the richness of the color and how they harmonize the whole masterpiece. Van Gogh used the colors of orange and yellow together with green and blue which are analogous but at the same time are complementary with each other. It is also visible that the lighting is at low angle which somehow gives an impression of an afternoon or sunset vibes to the painting. In this painting, it is evident that there are lines that separate each entity to one another. Above is a horizontal line that divides the sky to the land and on the right side is a curve line that detaches the land to the river. An implied line that organizes an artwork is applied in the painting. The peasants are aligned diagonally, horizontally and vertically to each other. The texture of the painting is impasto.…
