Comparing Today's The Machine Stops And The World
In the society today, technology is over taking the world. People are becoming more and more dependent on it. With that being said, The Machine Stops and the world today have a lot in common. If it were not for technology, many people would be devastated. The Machine Stops is an old book based off of creativity, but who would have thought that it would relate so well to the world today. The only difference is the environment people live in. The environment in the book and the environment the world today are very different. In The Machine Stops, the world is taken over by technology. The technology that they are under is called The Machine. The Machine is a machine that does everything for everybody. The environment is very isolated, and everyone lives underground in their own little tunnel. It feeds them, baths them, provides a bed for them, and even communicates for them. Life was just handed to you by a push of button, literally. The daily routine someone under the machine goes something like this, wake up, press a button to get breakfast, watch a lecture on a screen, press a button for lunch, watch another lecture on a screen, press a button for supper, and then press a button to go to bed. In the book, the world is run by a computer. This computer provides everything for the people. With that being said, if the Machine was to stop working, they would not know what to do with themselves. They would not know what to eat or how to communicate with other people. Society today would not know what to do if technology stopped working. They would not be able to do their jobs, they would not be able talk to someone over the phone, and they would not be able to find the answers to their questions.
