Comparing The Three Wishes And What Of This Goldfish
Although The Brothers Grimm of The Three Wishes and What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish share the similar idea of being granted three wishes, they have very different ways of presenting this idea. I found that reading through the lines and paying attention to the sequence of the stories is how I differentiated between the two. In this essay, the prime differences and similarities will be addressed.
First, the main difference between The Three Wishes and What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish is that the stories are of different genres. The Grimm’s story is a fairy tale and because of this, all three wishes actually occur to the huntsman, and his wife. For example: the first wish for the sausages actually happens, and the second wish for the sausages to go into the wife’s nose also occurs. As to in Yonatan’s story, it is a realistic story, so all of the wishes are being hypothetically asked. Meaning that none of the wishes really appear to the people, but they’re being discussed. This huge difference can only be understood through grasping the sequence of the story, and once that is understood the story in its entirety comprehended.
Second, in the Grimm’s story the wishes are invalid and unintentional, yet in Yonatan’s story, all of the wishes are intentional and important to the characters. Throughout Yoni’s story, he directly

Regardless of the occurring, they still are granted the three wishes options. Additionally, the wishes are bestowed from a fish and an elf, which are two unlikely things to offer up wishes. In both of the stories, the same lesson can be learned from the characters. For example, the Grimm’s story teaches that happiness is what really matter in life. Then, Yonatan’s story teaches that no matter the background of a person, everyone just wants true happiness for themselves. Even though the stories are different, they both have apparent

One of the most eminent versions is “Aschenputtel” by the prominent Grimm Brothers. This tale, though well known, is not the original. One of earlier versions is “Yeh-Shen” by Charles Perrault in which, like “Aschenputtel”, has the classic rags-to-riches motif. The stories came from different backgrounds, they each have different ways of going from rags to riches. As the story starts you can see the similarities, from the loss of beloved family members, to a beautiful ball that got them a handsome prince who brought them their ever after. Though these things bring “Aschenputtel” and “Yeh-Shen”…

Throughout the novel, Steinbeck makes this 'dream ' the main focus of the story for both the reader and characters. George’s dream is to have independence and to "go into town and get whatever I want" but most importantly he dreams of being "somebody". On the other hand, Lennie aspires to be with George and to "tend the rabbits". Ultimately, George and Lennie both wanted to "have a little house and couple of acres an ' a cow and some pigs" however, George only tells Lennie about their dream to comfort Lennie. This is shown when Lennie says "No... You tell it. It ain 't the same if I tell it. Go on... George. How do I get to tend the rabbits." It is only after they all realised that together, "this thing they never believed in was coming true" Even though the dream is very important to George as well, Steinbeck portrays Lennie as someone who wants the dream a lot more. This is shown through Lennie 's angry or upset feelings when he feels like he has done something that would jeopardise their dream. George uses this to his advantage to threaten and control Lennie by blackmailing him, "If you do, I won 't let you tend the rabbits." Consequently, Lennie tries to please George and to gain his approval as much as possible.…

There is an obvious contrast between their dreams; George wants to belong somewhere and feel accomplished, while Lennie wants comfort, symbolized by rabbits. Steinbeck uses this difference to foreshadow the dream’s weakness. Having two different versions of the dream emphasizes the idea that, with George and Lennie’s different needs for comfort and security, the dream can not survive.…

Fairy tales are part of every Western child 's upbringing, and have been for decades. The method of telling and the stories them selves may have changed from the purely oral tradition to that of the written word with the introduction of the printing press and more importantly the Chap Book in the eighteenth century (Montgomery, 2009 p. 13). But the basic core of the tales remain hundreds of years on to instruct and delight children to this day. These days children are surrounded by fairy tales in the form of the books read to them at home or nursery/school, television and film adaptations, cartoons and even advertisements, as well as Christmas pantomimes. Each version they see will have differences, some more subtle than others, but the basic story will be the same.…

These two stories differ thematically. “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Andersen’s is a literary fiction showing the audience to love themselves before you can love others and to always be careful what you wish for; on the other hand, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” being completely commercial fiction shows the audience dreams do come true as long as you are persistent and never give up on your dreams. Although Hans Christian Andersen does an outstanding job leaving the audience with an understanding of life, I will always love Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” for teaching me to always follow my…

    1. The purpose of this story is to show the importance of the choices that you make. If you’re going to wish for something, just make sure to think twice about it before the wish finalizes. In this simplistic style of writing, direct characterization and its use of the wish motif make this story a fable of sorts, a tale meant to teach a lesson. The story is centered around a child who potentially has magical powers, that wants to use his ability for the sake of his greedy family members without knowing the consequence.…
