Comparing Othello And The Dark Knight
The play Othello was written in 1603 by William Shakespeare . This book is about a jealous husband who is deceived by his close friend and kills his wife in the end. The movie the dark knight was directed by Christopher Nolan . the movie the dark knight is about a man named Batman who fights against evil to protect Gotham city. In the play Othello the character Iago has a lot in common with the Joker from the movie the Dark Knight . A famous poet W. H Auden has a definition for a villain , a motiveless malignant , and a joker. The Joker and Iago have Auden's characteristics. Iago and the Joker have many traits in common . H Audens other haracteristic he descibes Iago and the Joker as motivless malignents . A motiveless malignant is someone who is evil just to be evil. They have no motive or reeason to do what they do . Iago is a motivless malignant by taking advantage of Roderigo. Iago knows Roderigo is in love with Desdamona and would do anything to have her as his wife. Iago tells Roderigo that Cassio is in love with Desdamona and is in the way of Roderigo marrying her. Iago tells Roderigo we have to kill him . Iago says Now , whether he kill Cassio Or cassio him , or each do kill the other ( Act 5 Scene 1 line 13-14) He gets Roderigo to attack Cassio but Iago turns on Roderigo and kills him. Iago had no point to kill Roderigo and pretend to be his friend because the person Iago really wanted died was Othello. The Joker is also a motiveless malignant . In the movie the Joker kills random innocent people . The only way he will stop killing if Batman turns himself in to the authorities and shows us his true identity. The joker aslo blows up an entire hospital and has no reason to do it. He also robbs money from banks and just burns it all.
