Comparing Act Three Of William Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Act three opens up to Benvolio and Mercutio strolling through the public square. They casually insult each other and mock the Capulets. All is well until they stumble upon Tybalt. Tybalt isn't in a particularly good mood because he is looking for Romeo so he can get back at him for crashing the Capulet party. Tybalt fires a few insults at Mercutio, and not knowing better Mercurio fires back a few comebacks. As things get heated Benvolio warns them not to fight, but just then Romeo walks in. Romeo doesn't want to get involved in the fighting so Mercurio fights Tybalt. Romeo tries to stop the fight, but Tybalt kills Mercutio. Romeo takes the blame for Mercutio's death so he challenges Tybalt to a duel and kills him. Romeo runs off just before the Prince shows up, who is not happy about the fighting. Benvolio explains what happened, but the Prince decides that Romeo must be banished. …show more content…
When her nurse enters, Juliet realizes something must have gone wrong. At first, she believes her new husband has been killed, but then she learns that Tybalt was killed. She is quite angry at Romeo but then she remembers that Romeo is her husband and she really can’t curse him. She is in despair when she finds out Romeo has been banished, but her nurse promises to find him so they can say goodbye. Scene three starts with Romeo, who is hiding out with Friar Laurence, learning that he is banished. When there is a knock on the door, Romeo runs to hide, but it is only Juliet’s nurse. The Friar and nurse come up with a plan that Romeo and Juliet can have one night together before he leaves. They then promise they will find a way to get Romeo pardoned and to have the prince make the marriage public knowledge. Romeo runs off to spend the night with

    The bodies of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet were found today in the Capulet tomb. Romeo had taken a poison, and Juliet stabbed herself with Romeo’s dagger. But the question is why?     Likely due to their shared immaturity and impulsivity, Romeo and Juliet both acted in an alike, extreme manner to his expulsion. Juliet is the first of the two to hear of the consequences her new husband will have. Act three, scene two notes her reaction. At first she is enraged; she feels betrayed that her lover has killed her cousin Tybalt. She exclaims: “Was ever book containing such vile matter / So fairly bound? O, that deceit should dwell / In such gorgeous place!” (3.2.83-85). In addition to proving her disappointment, this demonstrates how shallow her love of Romeo is. In an attempt to support her, Nurse wishes for shame to come to Romeo for stabbing the beloved Tybalt. Upon this point, Juliet’s youthful irrationality comes back into play, instantly blindsided by sudden siding with Romeo. “Upon his brow shame is ashamed to sit; / For ‘tis a throne where honor may be crowned / Sole monarch of the universal earth. / O, what a beast was I to chide at him!” (3.2.92-95) is Juliet’s response, further demonstrating her as naïve, foolish and blind of the dangers of her love. Suddenly, her original dismay over Tybalt’s death turns to despair that she may never again be with her husband, as he is to be sent away from Verona. Selfishly, she laments that now she will be a maiden-widowèd, and death will be the one instead to take her maidenhead. This is reminiscent of the opening scene of the play where Sampson and Gregory state that a woman either loses her maidenhead or her head. By the end of the scene, she is depressed, accepting that her marriage is ruined.…
