Compare and Contrast Essay: Apple vs. Microsoft
In life there are always comparisons especially when trying to decide between what products to buy. There is the debate of Coke vs. Pepsi, Chevy vs. Ford, and in this day in age with how technology has advanced we have Apple vs. Microsoft. Apple’s success has always been because they are a more innovative company. Their products may cost you more, but the quality you receive is well worth the cost. Their products can last years like their laptops for example, but if you have a windows based laptop you need to replace it every year in order to keep up with technology. When talking about what to compare with these two companies I am going to focus on the logo, stocks, and their operating systems.
Apple is a more consumer-based product, while Microsoft tends to reach out more towards businesses. Apple’s logo is more classic and just a picture of an apple with a bite out of the apple. While Microsoft’s is just the name Microsoft with four colored squares that look like a window. Microsoft looks like a combination of Google and Apple’s design elements. Microsoft tries to use design elements from multiple companies in order to help them with the public. No more logo in technology is more known than Apple’s. Microsoft has regained its position as the number 2 most valuable US company right behind Number 1 Apple. Apple is a maker of closed and proprietary Technology products. Apple has earned a commanding market value of 669 billion in comparison to Microsoft’s 408 billion. Apple develops its in secret and unveils them to the public with presentations shown to people all over the world. Apple and Microsoft are in a dead heat this year with shares of

When customers see the Apple logo they will immediately associate it with the product or service. In 2007 Apple put out loads of adverts to promote their products. It’s important that Apple maintain consistency with their brand. Changing their logo will destroy all of the work that they’ve put in to developing the brand. I went on the Apple website and it said their branding is about lifestyle; imagination; liberty regained; innovation; passion; hopes, dreams and aspirations; and power-to-the-people through…

Apple and Microsoft are alike in they were created at the same time and both had great ideas. Some similarities they share are products such as portable media players and smart phones, tablet devices, and retail stores. They both have portable media players. Apple has the iPod and Microsoft has the Zune. They both do the same thing, but have completely different functions within the device. Zune is all tiled and more cut and dry verses the iPod ,which is sleek, creative, and allows more wiggle room than the Zune. Apple wins over people with the iPhone; it functions just like their iPod touch and newer generation iPods. Windows has the Windows phone which works like the Windows 8 software, everything is on tiles and very confusing to use. Apple and Microsoft both have tablet devices; Apple the iPad, and Windows has the surface. Lastly, they both have retail stores, where a costumer can come in and buy their products.
