The Internet is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary as an electronic communications network that connects computer networks and organizational computer facilities around the world. However, the internet represents so much more than what the dictionary definition implies. Imagine a world where we couldn’t immediately go on Google to look up any questions we may have about the world, a world without YouTube, a world without Wikipedia, a world without email, a world without social media, a world without connection. It is unfathomable to think about a time when all the knowledge on Earth wasn't at our fingertips.
Even worse is a planet where we can’t even reach others in seconds. The internet allows us to experience the world from the comfort of our homes. As farfetched as a world without the internet may sound, none of the above existed only ten years ago. Even though life without internet may seem unimaginable, there are advantages and disadvantages to the life we live today with Internet and life before the internet.
One advantage to the internet is the fact that research has become much easier. Details, facts, and figures on any topic can be found with a few movements of our fingers. The internet has not only made research easier, but it has also allowed more information found on the internet as compared to a local library, the main source of information before the internet. Also, we can now affirm the accuracy of information by having various different sources. Although this was

possible before the internet, it is much easier to do this with this amazing invention. However, there is one major drawback to this luxury we have because of the internet. I conducted my research using predominantly the internet due to the vast amount of information that is available. My rationale for using this method of research was one of convenience and time management. Although information can be accessed immediately I soon discovered the amount of information was so vast, and not always relevant. Consequently, I did on occasion find myself going through reams and reams of information before finding exactly what I was are looking for, this in which case can be extremely distracting. In this…

The internet, as Carr agrees, is a time-saving tool. Carr says: “Research that once required days in the stacks or periodical rooms of libraries can now be done in minutes.” In today’s world, people simply do not have the time to spend hours or maybe even days in a library sifting through mountains of books and articles to find a single piece of information that is actually pertinent to what they are searching for if they can even find it. What Google does is grant universal access to thousands of resources including books, articles, encyclopedias, and hundreds of other types of media at the click of a mouse. The ability to access such a vast amount of information in such a prompt manner provides us with the time to discover even more information and deepen our knowledge of the subject much further that what could simply be a line or two in a book.…

Research has come a long way, from the 20th century to the present day. To find out an answer to a question people had to do hard research using large books like the encyclopedia and a dictionary. Though it may sound absurd that we are calling the dictionary a large book, people these days much rather find the definition on a computer than cycle through some pages. Society has become so used to the luxury of the Internet and the resources that it provides, that more and more people are beginning to open up their laptops instead of books. Information is beginning to virtually disappear from the printing press and is making a place for itself on the World Wide Web. Newspapers, articles, magazines, and books are soon to be “extinct” left behind in the dust. As more and more people beginning to buy technological gadgets like smartphones, tablets and laptops, they lose the need for hard copy material as they have all of that in the palm of their hand. Researching material has become as easy as a click to find information on a topic using these gadgets. I know for a fact that if I had an…
