My Favorite types of Music

Of all the types of music that I enjoy, two of my favorites are gospel and Rhythm and Blues (R&B); however, gospel is my favorite. It is my favorite because it is uplifting and encouraging. On the other hand, I also like listening to R&B. For example, when it’s time to clean up and I’m dragging around, R&B always pumps me up and gets me ready and energized.

Generally speaking, gospel is my favorite type of music; however I didn’t always like it. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until about a year ago that I became a lover of this genre. One of the Elder’s at my church came to me on the day that my children were baptized; he said he wanted us to listen to gospel music for seven days. Now I’m thinking to myself, this is going to be very challenging. Immediately, I changed my radio to 104.3, which is a gospel station. Consequently, my children didn’t like the music; therefore seldom wanted to ride with me. As the days went by, I began to grow fonder of the music that I was listening to. Meanwhile, I lost my job, and it seemed as though the devil was attacking me from all angles. In spite of that, I found gospel music to have the ability to heal, deliver and set me free from whatever was troubling me. In addition to that, it is also apart of my daily worship. Furthermore, one of my favorite gospel artist is Chris Harris. He has an award winning song titled, “Let It Be Me.” Next, there is Fred Hammond. I love his song titled, “They That Wait”. It lets me know that when I have a problem or I am going through something; that I must pray, have faith and wait on the Lord to fix it. As a result of listening to gospel for seven days, I have learned to love and appreciate it.

Even though I enjoy gospel the most, R&B is my second favorite. I have always been a lover of this type of music. On the contrary, I love to lie in my bed at night and listen to “The Sweat Hotel”. It makes me think about my husband and

Don Anselmo and Mrs.Higgins are similar because they both stand up for what they want. They have in common that they are both being strong in the beginning. Don Anselmo and Mrs. Higgins are different because Don Anselmo stays strong throughout the entire story but at the end Mrs.Higgins does not. I would not say they are more different than similar because they both want something better for the kids in their life.…

The baker in “A Small Good Thing” by Raymond Carver caught my attention from the beginning of the story. He was abrupt with Ann, but it felt like there were reasons that would be explained soon why he was this way. The initial impression I got from him wasn’t likeable but as I got further into the story, there was a spark of compassion in this man that I could relate to. The bakers harassing tendencies and social isolation as a person are not traits I exhibit, where as his strong sense of compassion and emotion is where I can relate more to.…

When comparing and contrasting the poem “What It's Like to Be a Black Girl” by Patricia Smith with the short story “Country Lovers” By Nadine Gordimer. The character in “What It's Like to Be a Black Girl” is based more upon recent time while “Country Lovers” is based in a older time frame. However, both stories are uniquely about wanting to be loved. The poem and the short story are both great examples of the difficulty of life between two different ethnic backgrounds. While one concentrates more on tragedy the other is faced more with acceptance that leads to tragedy. Love although can't be explained, has many explanations to how one can love. Whether your love goes as deep as loving through tragic times or looking for someone to love you at all times. Both of these stories focus on issues of racism, inner struggles, slavery, prejudice, and the pursuit of freedom as well as equality. At the end, everyone wants and needs to be accepted and will do whatever it takes.…

Although summer and winter both occur when the Earth is titled toward the sun, there are very different seasons. The first and most obvious difference between summer and winter is the weather. During the summertime the days are warm and sunny. Temperatures range from 70° and above with a slight breeze, making it enjoyable to be outside. Toward the end of summer people tend to worry about hurricanes and tornadoes. On the other hand, winter days are cold and dark. There is a constant freezing chill making temperatures drop below zero. Normally there are worries about serious snow storms and blizzards. Another noticeable difference between summer and winter consist of the types of activities people participate in during the two seasons. Summer activities tend to involve being outdoors. For example people enjoy trips to the beach, family cookouts, swimming and even long walks. The sounds of kids riding their bikes and fireworks crackling can be heard throughout the days. However, in the winter people occasionally enjoy outdoors activities like sledding, ice skating and snowboarding. Generally during the winter though, people spend most of their time participating in indoor activities like watching movies, readings books, and baking sweets. For the reason that climates are drastically different during the summer and winter, these is also a huge difference in the way a person is dressed. During the summer people dress lightly, wearing simple t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, and bathing suits. Hats are typically worn to keep the sun out of people's faces. Since the temperatures are high there is no need for any extra clothing or layering. Unlike while in the winter time multiple layers are worn to keep warm. People dress in heavy sweaters, long pants, thick coats, and boots. Hats are also worn during the winter, but not to block the sun but instead to keep the heat in. Last but…

Everyday, stereotype is used in the society. Sometimes, when people use stereotype on other people, they don’t even recognize it because it’s so common and is ignored by the society. It’s a way to judge people through their common believes based on ethnicity, gender, skin color, appearance and language of the people who are being judged. For example, when people see a Vietnamese woman in her 20’s, 30’s and 40’s just migrated to America, they would assume that she will be working in a nail salon and flirt with some rich guys to get married with. Being stereotype is difficult deal with, and it’s really offended and hurtful. “The Myth of the Latin woman: I Just Met a Girl Named Maria” by Judith Ortiz Cofer and “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan share some common and different stereotypes that they had to go through. In the story “The Myth of the Latin Woman: I just met a Girl Named Maria”, Judith Cofer wrote about her experiences being stereotyped as a Latin woman. In “Mother Tongue,” Amy shared her personal experiences being stereotyped with her language’s barrier. Even though the two female authors shared the similarity for being stereotyped by the society, they faced different situations on the way they were stereotyped.…
