In my paper I will be comparing and contrasting two literary works of a short story and a poem. The short story and poem I chosen to compare and contrast is “Story of the Lost Son” (Gospel of Luke) and “The Boxer” (Paul Simon and Brue Woodley. On my paper I will be writing about the similarities and differences between the short story “Story of the Lost Son” and the poem “The Boxer”. My paper will be given you the insights on a short story and poem can be similar in one way, but also different in another. In the short story of “Story of the Lost Son” it was about a poor father with two sons and the youngest son wanted to go out in the world on his to get what was coming to him. In the poem “The Boxer” you have a poor boy who want to leave home and go out in the world and make something for his self but couldn’t because he didn’t have the money for it. In the first paragraph I will be talking about the short story of the “Story of the Lost Son” (Gospel of Luke). In the short story “Story of the Lost Son” it was about a poor family with just a father and two sons. The father had some land and money put up for his two sons when they was ready to be on their own. So that they could have a little something rather than go out on their own nothing. When the youngest son found out that his father had that for them he goes and tells his father that he was ready to be on his own and he was ready to get what he had coming to him. His father’s told him he wasn’t ready because he was still just a boy but he argues that he was ready. When he left from home he got marry and blew all his money in just a month and didn’t had any way to get it back. So what he had to do was run back home and apologies to his father to see if his father would accept him back home even though he ran off knowing that his father was trying to tell him

Although summer and winter both occur when the Earth is titled toward the sun, there are very different seasons. The first and most obvious difference between summer and winter is the weather. During the summertime the days are warm and sunny. Temperatures range from 70° and above with a slight breeze, making it enjoyable to be outside. Toward the end of summer people tend to worry about hurricanes and tornadoes. On the other hand, winter days are cold and dark. There is a constant freezing chill making temperatures drop below zero. Normally there are worries about serious snow storms and blizzards. Another noticeable difference between summer and winter consist of the types of activities people participate in during the two seasons. Summer activities tend to involve being outdoors. For example people enjoy trips to the beach, family cookouts, swimming and even long walks. The sounds of kids riding their bikes and fireworks crackling can be heard throughout the days. However, in the winter people occasionally enjoy outdoors activities like sledding, ice skating and snowboarding. Generally during the winter though, people spend most of their time participating in indoor activities like watching movies, readings books, and baking sweets. For the reason that climates are drastically different during the summer and winter, these is also a huge difference in the way a person is dressed. During the summer people dress lightly, wearing simple t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops, and bathing suits. Hats are typically worn to keep the sun out of people's faces. Since the temperatures are high there is no need for any extra clothing or layering. Unlike while in the winter time multiple layers are worn to keep warm. People dress in heavy sweaters, long pants, thick coats, and boots. Hats are also worn during the winter, but not to block the sun but instead to keep the heat in. Last but…

Flowers are those plants intentionally cultivated in the garden while weeds are those who come in uninvited. Weeds are competitors of the cultivated plants stealing water, nutrients and sunlight from the flowers. It may sound simple, but weeds, like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder. What some gardeners consider unwanted weeds, others consider wildflowers. Although weeds and flowers may seem very different, the two are quite similar. For example, the similarities between flowers and weeds are, they grow on the ground, they both have flowers (in some weeds), and they both pollinate by female and male flowers and weeds. The differences between flowers and weeds are, weeds are hard to pull out of the ground and flowers are easily pulled.…

Racial discrimination has affected black people in the United States and Africa for many years. Although racial discrimination is against the law in both countries many people believe that racism still exists and there is significant evidence to support many racial discrimination claims. While many racist people has believe throughout time that their behavior is appropriate; two short stories which are Country Lovers and The Welcome Table illustrate these behaviors and allow the reader to interpret, understand and feel the suffering of two black women caused by painful racism. Both stories enlighten the reader on how one ethnicity believe that they are superior to the other and proves that racism is practiced through ignorance and hatred. This essay will compare and contrast the racial theme of the short stories “Country Lovers” written by Nadine Gordimer and “The Welcome Table” written by Alice Walker. Both of these short stories share the same theme, which is centered on racism, but the theme is not limited to racism it also includes love, hardship, rejection, and death. Both stories share racial tension between two ethnic groups, as well as pain suffered as a result of racism. Both of these literary pieces give the reader awareness of the pain and suffering endured by the two black characters that were subject to racial discrimination and the superior mentality of those that participated in the discrimination. Discrimination and racism is the core issue in both of these short stories.…

Everyone consciously or unconsciously takes into account how someone looks like, thinks like, and acts like. There are many factors that cause one to form prejudgments against other groups of people. To be accepted culturally and economically is a great weight lifted off but to be rejected from few or all subdivisions is tremendously vicious. Prejudice affects all areas of life; it begins in the home; in conjunction with values taught by families. It spreads like a disease, gradually becomes a way of living and everybody starts to become numb to the effects however the results are detrimental. For the most part, it creates violence and criminal activity along with anger and hatred. The history of prejudice nature is decorated with many names such as racism, segregation, or cultural diversities but no matter what is labeled, it causes pain and chaos to humanity. The stage performers acted professionally as the actors and actresses in the movie. Yet, compared to the movie, the projection of some actions in the theatre were exaggerated than in the film. The music and songs sung by the actors and actresses were suitable to the scenes they were in. The melody and rhythm of each song played depends on the mood of the scene just like in the film. The musical and the film portrayed different moods such as despair, sadness, hope, misery, and gladness. To emphasize more the emotion of the situation in the, the audios were supported by projecting different colors of lights. Bright colors such as yellow and white represent neutral or happy moods while dark colors such as red, blue and green, represent dark moods or scenes with negative emotions. In the film, to support the emotion of the scenes different shades of lightings were presented together with the focus and angle of the camera. In the theatre, to show the sequence of two story happening after the other, two scenes will be presented, the actors in first scene to happen will act first while the other group pauses. While in the movie, scene after scene will be flashed solely in the screen. Using the historical analysis to analyse Himala, the musical represented the misguided fanatiscm of Filipinos about religion which was the negative attitude passed on by the European friars during the Spanish occupation. It showed how religion was used to gain power, fame and wealth, which is one of the very erroneous deed done during the Dark Ages. It also showed the very stereotypic views of the Filipino about success, that in order to be successful or to have a good fortune, you have to please the heavens for a miracle to fall on you, but if you do otherwise you’ll be damned or cursed for good. This is supported by the current socio- economic situation of the country, which is buried in poverty and corruption. Filipinos…

They say Men are better because they are smarter, bigger, bolder, better thinkers and better at everything else. And Women usually stay at home all the time doing nothing besides for house jobs like cleaning up, hanging clothes out, doing laundry and other stuff like that. Men are so much better. Absolutely yes because men are better physically and mentally. Naturally, men are better physically, at the least. Men are designed to run, hunt, gather, track, kill, etc. Women are designed to carry children and be "helpers"; from a pure evolutionary perspective. This is not unique to humans, indeed, it is found in almost every species of mammal. It makes sense in evolutionary terms, too.…
