Imagine tensely watching the meteorologist tell you if you are in complete danger. The risk has been reduced to a watch for the disastrous tornado! You’re not sure if that is completely accurate information because you can hear the wind around you picking up, rapidly. You look out your window, just to see the tornado forming. The thunderstorm outside has touched the ground! The meteorologist sets out a warning. You speed to you basement and have no time to rush to get all of your belongings. CRASH! BOOM! CRACK! You are witnessing a tornado. Now, forget about that and think about tons of rain pounding on to your rooftop. A flood warning has just been announced. To start off, tornadoes and hurricanes are both inclement types or forms of weather. They can both destroy homes, trees, cars and they can both kill people. Also, they both can have people run away from their homes and leave everything behind. Not to mention, having meteorologists report about a them, nonstop. They both have wind speeds high enough to blow trees and houses off the ground! Amazing! Don’t forget, they both definitely do not have the same shape. Consider what the two texts have to say to prove my point. In the article, “Earth Science Hurricanes” the author states, “The winds around the eye can blow as much as 200 miles per hour. They have the ability to uproot trees from the ground. They can also blow grass out of windows.” From this quote, you can imagine the picture the author is trying to paint in the reader’s mind. This painted picture would be of complete chaos. Grass blowing from windows. Trees flying around. People trying to run but, the wind pulling them back. People outside can be swept away with such a strong breeze. That’s what I said, the tornadoes could do, as well. Do you see how in the article, “Earth Science Hurricanes” it describes the dangers of various types of inclement weather. It is saying it can do all sorts of chaotic things or dangers that can ruin many lives. In the article, “Spinning Thunderstorms” the author states, “It was a category EP5, the most powerful kind there is. Its winds were estimated to be more than 200 miles per hour. In less than ten minutes, the town was destroyed and ten people lost their lives. When the fury passed, people clambered through rubble. Cars and trucks had been thrown about. Homes were crushed, or simply ripped from the ground.” From this quote, the author is explaining one example of tornado that struck a town with innocent people.
