The French and Indian War took place over 9 years. It was fought between the French and British with the help of Indians on both sides. The dispute was over the land in the Ohio Valley which was land crucial for fur trading with Indians. Both countries claimed the land, thus resulting in the French and Indian War which was a major turning point because it ended salutary neglect, therefore resulting in the Sugar Act and soon the Townshend Act which was crucial because this all then lead to the Revolution along with the result of more colonial unity.
Due to the French and Indian War there was the Sugar Act of 1764. England was in debt from the French and Indian War which is major because prior to the French and Indian War they were not. However the turning point of the French and Indian war resulted in more colonial unity such as the Albany Congress; intercolonial congress summoned by the British to achieve greater colonial unity and to assure Iroquois support in the war with French. This sense of colonial unity emerging is huge and very important. Without colonial unity America may not even be a country today. The unity lead to formation such as first continental congress and eventually led the colonists to rebel against the British in the Revolutionary War.
