Compare And Contrast Religions And Desert Religions
Religion is defined as a belief in spiritual beings, or a description of practices. The evolution from ancient religions to desert religions has been nothing less than captivating. The similarities and differences between religions make them unique. It is imperative to understand the past to understand the present. Religion as we know it evolved from all of the religions that came before. Whether we agree with the practices or not, they in reality influenced our religious beliefs today. Desert religions differ from the religions prior to it because of the belief that there is only one god. Judaism is known for being the oldest of the world’s monotheistic or desert religions, which include Christianity and Islam. Islam beliefs are centered on one god, but they also have prophets. Christianity too believes in one god, but Jesus is also very important to Christians. Jesus is the son of God and the savior of the world. He was killed by the Romans because he was a threat to their “higher power”, and shortly after his death he resurrected from death. Myths were created to explain everything from the creation of man to what caused the separation of heaven and earth. The Gilgamesh epic focuses on explaining immortality through Gilgamesh’s quest. Gilgamesh and the book of Genesis have a lot of similarities. Though Christians do not refer back to the epic the similarities are too much alike to ignore. They both include a global flood caused by wickedness and sin. Noah and Utnapishtim were both righteous and blessed after the flood because of their deeds. The two heroes built boats to prepare for the flood, holding both animals and humans. Just as the bible describes how the world was made and how it works, myths do the same for other
