in oedipud each character tries their best to prevent Oedipus' downfall - the oracle at delphi is mocked, jocasta and laius kill their son to prevent his son killing him one day and marrying his own mother. is this the same as death of a salesman? do they try their hardest to prevent the outcomes but to no avail? destiny?
both willy and oedipus have these views of themselves with pride and how comfortable their lives are so much that theyre living in a fantasy land so they are unaware whn things fall apart around them. willys lies become so frequent that people believe every word he says and oedipus' position in greece is a king so people accepts his word as truth because of his position - both are treated as though thy only speak truth and so begins their downfall of pride.
however, oedipus is used with visions of blindness - unaware of wht is going on as well as his future being blind. when he is also known for seeing things clearly and quick minded whn fighting the sphinx he is unable to see himself for what he rly is. oedipus is high class from birth, wheras as willy is a different tragic hero - he describes himself as a lowman instd of a powerful leader but he is also plagud with metaphorical blindness. he is a dreamer who is unable to face the realities of a modern day society. Willy builds his whole life around the philosophy that if a person is well likedand good looking, he will be successful. Willy makes the comment, "Be liked and you will never want." His need to be well liked is so strong that his choices throughout his life, and his blindness to the reality around him, prevents Willy from realizing his dreams and values were flawed.Because of his unwillingness to change, Willy dies at the hands of his own tragic flaw.
