Compare and Contrast
“Never forget that the most powerful force one earth is love” (Nelson Rockefeller). Sobel from The First Seven Years and Noah from The Notebook both fought for love in both the stories they were in. Noah and Sobel are hardworking, strong-willed, and both loving. They both had to endure hard work and pain to get the woman that they loved. They both faced many struggles and in the end they both got what they wanted. Both Noah and Sobel were hard working. Noah from The Notebook says in the story “So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you” (Nicholas Sparks). Noah did whatever he had to do to get his girl, no matter what it was. Sobel from The First Seven Years stated that “Why do you think I worked so long for you?” Sobel cried out” (Malamud 126). Sobel is exclaiming to Feld that he did not work for Feld for the money but for Miriam. They both had to work and do whatever they had to do to get their girl. Noah and Sobel were also both strong-willed. Noah from The Notebook states “The scariest thing about distance is that you don’t know whether they’ll miss you or forget you” (Nicholas Sparks). Even though Allie left Noah he still loved her while she was gone. He always thought about her and dreamed of forever being with her. In The First Seven Years Sobel was also strong willed. “But the next morning, when the shoemaker arrived, heavy-hearted, he open the store, he saw he needn’t have come, for his assistant was already seated at the last, pounding leather for his love” (Malamud 127). This quote shows how strong-willed Sobel was. Even though Feld told him to wait two more years he still obeyed him and worked for him because he loved Miriam so much. Noah and Sobel were also very loving. They both were absolutely in love with both the woman they loved.
