Community Essay
Community Essay I think one important part to a small community is always its fire department. In my community, Oaks Volunteer Fire Department plays a huge role and does so much for my little home town. First of all it brings the small town together. The fire fighters are always having get-togethers that everyone in the community are welcome to come to. The fire department also provides a sense of safety for the community as well. They sell yearly fire agreements to people that live in the area for just a small fee. It lets people know that someone will be there to help if it is needed. My dad is the chief of Oaks Volunteer Fire Department and has been for 11 years now. I attend every dinner and fundraiser they have. They always have an annual car show every summer that I know everyone in town looks forward to just as much as I do. They hold the car show right behind the little fire department and always have at least 100 applicants, which is a good number for a small community. The whole town will come out and look at all the very expensive show cars. There is also a live band that can play most of the songs that people request and lots of food. The fire fighters bring their grills from home and they all grill burgers, hotdogs, and whatever else they can think to grill for everyone. I think that this event alone brings the community together and everyone always has a great time. This is just one of the many things the fire department does for the town. They also have a Christmas dinner every year that all the fire fighters, their families, and friends are welcome to come to. All the fire fighter’s families bring different dishes to feed everyone there. I am always excited about this. After everyone has eaten they play a slideshow of the years accomplishments and announce fire fighter of the year. The most beneficial thing I think the fire department does for the community is hold a fire prevention day for all the surrounding area’s schools. Not all fire

The city has a nice blend of many different cultures and ethnicity which allows people of a race or culture to feel comfortable within. Each member of the community participates by helping and giving back to the community by volunteering their time, monies or resources that they have available. People get involved in community service for a variety of reasons. For example, there are many who suffer from starvation and need someone willing to make sure they receive the necessary nutritional values. There are elderly people in this world who are looking for someone to talk to, and someone to comfort them. There are many people in the world seeking a friend and others who are searching for guidance or a mentor in life. Many people choose to give back to their community in different ways. I volunteered to attend Monterey Elementary school and Curtis Middle School to present some examples of the things we do in the health academy. For example, we brought some real pig lungs to Monterey and attached them to a tube in order for air to go through, causing it to expand and close. What I enjoyed the most was hearing those children gasp of amazement and look so interested at what they were witnessing. Furthermore, I was very surprised at how smart those kids were. For instance, we would ask them some simple questions, but some of them would tell us facts about the anatomy of a heart. That honestly astonished me but also made me radiant at how our young generation is developing. Another way I make my community better is participate in the fundraising for the varsity school soccer team in order for us to take a part in tournaments and hiking trips. Finally, I believe going to school is a way to help the community because students want to lean towards fields like police officer, doctor, nurse or firefighters and these are a few jobs of all the variety that help out the community by keeping it…

When considering the term “community” one must consider the different contexts of society in which this word fits. As a young girl at a suburban, mostly white school, my personal introduction to the word was simply, the collective of people in a neighborhood or part of town. It was not until I was witness to a particularly upsetting scene that I saw a stratification of particular groups of people within that community that I began to question my place.…

My community service experience took place in my local area in Sylmar. I was volunteering at Angels of the Valley, which is a facility that they take care of seniors and patients. I assisted the administrator, she showed me a lot of things and explained what is her role in her job. I found this very interesting. I believe that community service and volunteerism like this are very important. By spending your free time helping others in their community, you can experience and learn new things like what I did in this facility by preparing and giving the patients right of medicine, cooking food for them, and supervise the whole facility.…
