Analysis & Interpretation

The information given is based on the response received from the residents of Palmiste. Of the respondents interviewed an overwhelming majority that is 90% stated that males were the ones responsible for the juvenile delinquency in their communities, possibly because males are more likely to respond to situations with more violence and aggression than females due to certain factors related to their gender. ''The greater aggressiveness of the male is one of the best established, and most pervasive, of all psychological sex differences,'' wrote Dr. Eleanor E. Maccoby and Dr. Carol Nagy Jacklin, Stanford University psychologists. Women rarely display aggression therefore, aggressive behaviour was viewed as a practise that was found to be

Of all the disturbances being listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR)1 only a few of them have not yet been portrayed in films. Cinema has certainly been fascinated by insanity and its manifestations, and psychiatric disorders have provided film directors and scriptwriters with a stream of material for their scripts, action, and themes. Taking that interest into account, it is necessary to reflect on the vision of mental disturbances that has been transmitted by cinema to the public in general. For most average citizens the only contact they may have with the psychiatric reality is through cinema; hence, films are their one - yet strong -…

A widely acclaimed author named Edgar Allan Poe is known for his bizarre stories on murderers, madmen and mysterious women. In his short story, “The Tell Tale Heart”, the narrator leads us through his thoughts on himself and the actions he took on the old man. The narrator cunningly devised a plan to kill an old man because of his vulture-looking eye. For him, the eye was very disturbing and he decided to forever get rid of it. He doesn’t even find himself mad for doing so. Isn’t it funny how the insane never admit to them being crazy? “The Tell Tale Heart” shows us a fine example of how insane people view themselves and what we think of them as. Thus, this essay will elaborate on the differences between the narrator’s perception of himself and the reader’s perception of him.…

In return I believe that such examples showcase the effect of biology on little boys and little girls. As we know men tend to be more aggressive than women. To go along with these findings, Marc Breedlove; a behavioral endocrinologist at the University of California explains that society may be just as much to blame for the gender blur. “Yes we’re born with (genetic) predispositions, but its society that amplifies them, exaggerates them. I believe that- except for sex differences in aggression. Those (differences) are too massive to be explained simply by society.” (Blum 105) Blum then goes on to talk about how biological aggression in males contributes to most crimes being committed by males. She explains that in Europe and America for every robbery…

    * There are many views and theories as to if and how gender affects delinquency. One of the major theories is the gender-schema theory which basically states that society influences create girls feminine and boys masculine and that they are expected to adhere to those gender roles. Others theorize that differences are based on traits and that it is the “interaction of biological and psychological traits with the social environment that produces delinquency” (Siegel & Welsh, p. 142). Much of this has to do with child development. Other theorists believe social factors such as family life and friendships play a major role in criminal behavior. The feminists hold that crime rates have fluctuated because of the increased role women have in today’s society .Another contributor to the debate is the power-control theory which attests that women commit less crime because men have a role as the breadwinner for the family.…

Its director managed to apply the low budget and brilliant cast and create one of the best works of American cinematography. The most essential thing in this film is not its terrifying effect but the thought which it provokes. It does not resemble thousands of other horror movies because of its ability to render the particular idea to the viewer. Despite the fact that John Carpenter portrays the deeds of the psycho, they still have the hidden truth. With the help of this movie, the director has manifested his viewpoint on life, its laws, and possible aftermath. This movie was his inner response towards the sexual revolution and debauchery, which dominated over human moral dignity and ethics in the 1980s. The director showed that human actions have consequences and that people have to take this fact into account. People’s life is in their hands, and each individual is responsible for the aftermath of his or her…

More than 2 million juveniles are arrested each year with nearly 600,000 entering into juvenile incarceration. (Kapp, Petr, Robbins, & Choi, 2013) There has been a steady increase of youthful female offenders. From the early nineties up until about 2006, simple assault crimes have decreased “4% for male juveniles and it increased 19% for females” (Espinosa, Sorensen, & Lopez, 2013). “25 to 50 percent of antisocial girls commit crimes as adults (Pajer, 1998)”. "Similar risk factors may play a role in both girls' and boys' delinquency. Gender differences in underlying biological functions, psychological traits and social interpretation can result in different types and rates of delinquent behaviors for girls and boys (Moffitt,…

There are gender differences in criminal behavior solely based up genetic makeup. Gottfedson and Hirschi’s theory provides two facts that make me believe that males are more criminogenic than females. First, as stated in the theory, females are less likely to commit crime because they have higher levels of self control. Second, parents tend to be more vigilant in monitoring girls than boys parents are likely to be more consistent in the application of parental management with girls than boys. Both of these factors I find to be extremely true, especially when dealing with self control. In general, males have more testosterone than females and are more likely to let their emotions get the best of them. When talking about crime I could see how…

These statistics show that males are a lot more violent and are more capable of committing more serious crimes compared to women.…

There are many factors involved when trying to research patterns of delinquency between males and females. Males are more likely to be more aggressive and form no attachments to others. Boys from an early onset are taught to be strong and independent, as for girls they are taught to loving and princess like. Boys as they start getting older become more aggressive and more likely to retaliate in a bad situation (Wadsworth, 2005). Girls as they mature start becoming more relational and more likely to ignore those they do not like. Girls also tend be watched closer at early ages and kept emotionally under controlled. Many Girls who commit crimes tend to so in sexual related crimes linked to the way they feel about there self worth. Though many crimes are sexually linked women in today’s society are committing as horrific crimes as males. Overall women are taught to be less aggressive and usually blame themselves in most situations. While males are taught to be aggressive and learn to release the anger. Most women tend to internalize blame so they have lower self esteem about themselves and males tend to have higher self esteem (Wadsworth, 2005).…

The perception of deviance according to gender is that females are less likely to commit a crime than males. Society has put males into this defined box of being the gender that will be more competitive and aggressive. This is not always the case. However, as a society we do still raise girls to be gentle and motherly and we do not do the same for boys.…
