Some people say why is important for us to study intercultural communication? Another question which sometimes arises what is intercultural communication, which I sometimes ask myself. Intercultural communication is a very important subject. It teaches us how to manage differences. Culture is a very important thing in a person's life. It is the identity of a person. It answers the question who am I. It is a set of principles and values which a person follows. Also we have to respect a person based on what we support others' desired self concept. Intercultural communication is a subject which is not usually taught in middle and high school. Instructors think that a person develops the speech, but the sad part is that even if a person learns to communicate effectively they leak intercultural communication. Reason why is, because they have never be exposed to different cultures. In my country there aren't so many cultures like there is in America. Example is when I arrived in the US it was my first time in my life to see African-American and Asian-Americans. I heard in school as I was growing up, about the different cultures of the world, but there was a lot discrimination against different cultures. One of the main reason was, because Russia was a under communist rule at that time. It was until I came to the US that I finally started to communicate with different people from other cultures. I found out that it was just a leak of intercultural communication.
I personally belief intercultural communication is very important, because I learned that different communication is the key and I wouldn't sometimes be judge mental about different cultures. It exposed me the see that values and principles excesses in every culture.
