What characteristics make these essays expository?

Both essays use evidence, examples, or facts to explain a concept or to inform about their topics with a thesis as its base; the information is presented fairly and in a non-biased manner.

The type of organization the author used for the essay “Setting the Table” was the Informative Process.

Informative Process: An expository essay developed by informative process may best be described as a “how to” essay, or demonstration. This essay involves a step-by-step process, with steps arranged in their natural order, for example, How to Write an Expository Essay.

The type of organization the author used for the essay “Cochlear Implants” was Time Order.

Time order: An expository essay developed by time order involves the sequential or chronological organization of information from one time period to another. This type of expository development arranges information according to date or specific time, for instance, from the earliest to the most recent or vice versa. An essay about armed conflict in the Middle East might use this type of organization.

Why do you think each author chose that type of organization for his or her essay?

I believe the author of “Setting the Table” chose the informative process of organization for the essay because due to the type of information it contained the informative process was the best way to explain the examples and opinions.

I believe the author of “Cochlear Implants” chose time order as the organization process for this essay because it contained information from different periods in time. It also contained sequential information about the author’s experiences.
