Introduction: In order for any business to succeed, that business needs to provide a good or service that will attract and satisfy a group of people. One of the most popular and profitable businesses in the United States is the college education business. Colleges compete annually in order to enroll the most qualified students and to provide a learning environment that will retain those students. Once the faculty senate understands how satisfied students are with the current operations, they can work to make improvements that are necessary to retain current students and attract new students.
Research Dilemma: Students College of Pennsylvania are not satisfied with several of the current operations at the college.
Research Question: What can the faculty senate improve on in order to increase satisfaction levels for students?
Research Objective(s): The purpose of this research is to discover the level of satisfaction with the student body at College of Pennsylvania. This investigation explores the levels of student satisfaction with dining experience, athletics, classroom resources, and overall convenience at College. Through statistical analysis, we plan to prove that there are necessary improvements that the college needs to implement in order to compete in today’s economy.
Importance/ benefits: In the current economic recession, College cannot afford to lose students to other colleges as a result of minor predicaments that can be easily changed. Before the faculty senate can improve college operations, they have to know which specific operations students are displeased with. We believe that the information contained through this investigation will decrease current student transfer rates. Moreover, we think that potential students, who visit College, will find the college to be more attractive if the problem areas in our investigation are corrected.

    These things have clear indications that they have less understanding of university expectations. Also, they don’t often ask a faculty member for help or struggling in classes. However, there is support for the first generation students, so they can be satisfied, yet it is noted that “if colleges and universities are to improve students’ retention and graduation rates, they should consider taking action to support the five educational practices in order to improve academic achievement and levels of satisfaction” (Mussie T. Fourth, “enriching the undergraduate experience”, to explore opportunities, events, or activities that may gain their experience.     Regarding these businesses, such as Barnes & Noble and Starbucks, having a dominant presence on campus Lugo Lugo states, “It is no surprise that college students behave not like people seeking a higher form of knowledge but like customers of academia.     When it comes to the topic of attending college, most of us will readily agree that obtaining a higher education is important. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of paying for it. Whereas some are convinced that tuition is too high, others maintain that it is important no matter the cost. Andrew Hacker and Claudia Dreifus address just such an issue in their essay “Are Colleges Worth the Price of Admission”. Hacker and Dreifus discuss the issue of college tuition fees versus the quality of teaching they offer, but also point out that “colleges are taking on too many roles and doing none of them well” (180). They offer solutions and several proposals on how to improve the college experience. The main point they make, however is that colleges “have lost track of their basic mission to challenge the minds of young people” (180). At first glance, college students might say that attending to their dream college is their high priority. But on closer inspection, are students receiving a fair value for their investment? What are they gaining from higher education? “Graduating with six figures’ worth of debt is becoming increasingly common”, Hacker and Dreifus say. If Hacker and Dreifus are right that higher education industry is in need of a reform, as I think they are, then we need to reassess the popular assumption that attending to your dream college should be your priority no matter the cost of tuition.…
