College Isn't for Everyone
The words “You can’t”, have been apart of my mind set since day one. I was always told that it isn’t possible for me to be as smart as my sister, or on the same level of my brother who is special needs. I was always in the in between, but the main reason I am striving for success is because I know I can and even though at times I don’t think college is for me, I know I can achieve anything I set my mind to. In less than three years I will have a whole new life started for myself, all because I made it possible for myself to receive a college degree and start the perfect life full of success, money and happiness.
Throughout W.J Reeves “College Isn’t For Everyone”, he point outs many topics that I believe effects me personally but also my peers. Attendance, happens to be one of them. If you don’t give your classes the time needed, you begin to slack in every way possible. “After four years, the bad habits of not being on time and attending sporadically have become second nature. Such habits are unlikely to make for a very productive worker”. In all honesty, this is one of the main things that I have problems with, because of health issues and the thirty minute drive to class sometimes I believe it isn’t worth it. But almost 99% of the time it is worth it, for all I know missing a class could end in my failing the class cause I missed certain notes or a quiz. With that in mind, referring back to “College Isn’t For Everyone” Reeves says “It is hard to be a productive worker if one appears occasionally, yet token appearances, sometime just cameos, are tolerated in college”. I believe if I make the effort to not miss class then I’m not wasting my education or money, I’m making it possible for the life I want three years from now.
Experiencing college so far at community college has been everything I expected but so much better. I take pride in telling others I am a college student, because it shows that I have the initiative to strive for higher education to become the

College has so far exceeded my expectations in a huge way. As a new member of the ice hockey team there were many uncertainties and worries, as well as tons of excitements and anticipations. Obviously the biggest part, school, was nerve wracking and exciting too. In college hockey its very common that players take a few years off of school prior to attending, to play hockey in junior hockey leagues. This created a bit more nerves then excitement for the classroom aspect of school since i've only taken 3 college courses since graduating high school, making it a bit harder to get back into the swing of things. Besides getting back into school routine, being a hockey player in college has made the beginning…

One day, while I was laying peacefully on my bed, my mother came in with a letter from Florida A&M University. I didn't really want to speculate anything because a few days before I received a letter from another college saying that I wasn't accepted. Nevertheless I was still excited when I opened it and even more so when I read that I had been accepted. So without much hesitation I packed up and headed to Tallahassee. When I arrived my mother and I took care of registration and a plethora of things you have to manage as a new student. After all the hassles of college registration were completed my mother departed for home and I was left by myself to attend college. What a great feeling! Little did I know what I had on store for the next day, my first in college.…

When an average high schooler walks into senior year, the students are quickly bombarded by school counselors discussing which four year college they should apply too. At my high school, it was never second guessed whether the student would be attending college but was assumed. Most people have misconceptions that if they do not get a degree, they will unable to obtain a job and have an overall unsuccessful life. In Charles Murray’s, “Are Too Many People Going to College” and Freeman Hrabowski’s “College Prepares People for Life”, the two author both discuss the education system we have in place, however, Charles Murray provides a more convincing argument that college, contrary to popular belief, is just not for everyone.…

Since the first GI Bill was passed after World War II universities have been steadily increasing. Currently there are more than 4000 college like institutions in the United States. Public policy has been making higher education more reachable for example by creating federal student loan programs so everyone has a chance to attend college. But recently we have seen the cost of a four year degree drastically increase because Americans are seeing college as an obligation. “On “Real Education”” Robert T. Perry argues that we need more university and community college graduates. “Is College for Everyone” Pharinet is arguing that college is not for everyone. He states that there is too many students enrolled in school that don’t belong there. Roberts’s essay “On “Real Education”” is more persuasive because, not only did his writing appear on InsideHigherEd.com making him a more credible author but also because he argues his stance on college is for everyone using statistics and a believable explanation to back them up.…

Many people feel that everyone should further their education and go to college, but is college really for everyone? In the world, today, there is a great amount of stress and compulsion on high school graduates on whether they should continue their education by attending college. The option of whether to attend college may give the impression of being more challenging to some than others. Although I agree that college is beneficial up to a certain point, I do not agree college is for everyone. The reason as to why I do not completely agree that college is for everyone is because some high school graduates are not academically prepared, there are occupations needing people in positions for blue collar jobs, and some people simply just do not…

Have you ever heard the statement, “College is not for everyone”? Well what if we took it a little further and said that high school is not for everyone? Is this a reasonable statement to make and is it sensible enough to even be considered? Carol Jago believes so; she says that entrance to high school ought not be automatic, and that only those demonstrating “minimum competency in math, reading and writing” be allowed to enroll in high school (191). Should this proposal be ignored or admired?…

Perception reflects the process an individual employs in using information towards creating a meaningful worldview (Gibson, 2002). A consumer achieves this by selecting, organizing and interpreting phenomena. Perception has assumed great importance in consumption since individuals selectively perceive the products they consume (Zukin and Maguire, 2004). Briefly, perception affects choices by highlighting how people view advantages and risks associated with products.…

Well, I graduated high school and went on to college as my family expected me to. While majoring in Hospitality and Tourism I managed to attend Kingsborough Community College for about two years. I can’t say I was the most dedicated student, or that it was the most pleasant experience. Perhaps I wasn’t very content knowing the reason I was doing this was not because it was what I preferred but what kept my family happy. It was all until the day I found some bravery and chose to explore some new horizons.…
