College is very different from high school
College is very different from high school. You will have too much freedom or have a job and not too much time to study and no one will push you. Some college students are far away from their homes, so they will live by themselves, and as I know when you are in college, you might have a party every single week. When I go to college, I have to overcome many challenges: time management, adapting to the new environment, and adjusting to my independence,
I think if you want to study in college, the biggest challenge is time management. Because you might have a job and you need the study time. Like someone who has 4 or 5 classes and work 30 hours every week. They might get in trouble. If you want to pass all of those classes, you have to manage your time. How to manage your time? This is the problem all of the students who study in college need to solve. When I was a high school student in China, I needed to go to school 5 or 6 days week. And I needed to live in school; I could not go out of school during school days, so we just have a one day break each week, but in some high schools, you just have a one day break every two weeks. Then, when I came to USA, and went to college, it is so much more freedom; I don’t even know what I should do during my free time, I always have nothing to do, always feel boring.
To manage time, we need to make a plan or a schedule. That makes sure you do not waste too much time, and you can know what you should do first, what is more important. If you do this, it can save you time, so you can do more. That is a big difference; it takes a long time to adapt to. When you study in college, and you take four or five classes, maybe someday everything comes together, but you do not know which first, which is more important, if you do not have a schedule, so you might mess up everything. Also teachers do not care if you do your homework or not and they do not care if you get credit or not, only yourself. That’s why we need to make a plan. I think it makes you get things done earlier.
The second challenge is: how to adapt to the new environment. For me it is the biggest challenge because I am an international student and I am still learning English. I need to learn a new language, and need adapt to the new environment, also everything is new for me here, language, culture, people, etc.
Going to college here it is very hard for me, because I am an international student, and my English is not good enough. I try my best to do everything better. It is so difficult, but finally I made it, even though I am still not good enough. As time passes, the life living here was getting easier and even making new friends that are striving to do the same as me made it easier, as we studied and hung out together. Getting to know people that have the same common goal as me and especially as an international student made my days go by faster and the learning process a little easier as we all helped one another out. This is very important part why I still live in the USA.
The third challenge: independence. The schools are very different between China and USA. In China, if you are a student, even though you just a high school student, you need to live in school and the school day is the whole day. Sometimes you can go home once a week or once every two weeks. So living alone is not very hard for me. The only thing different between now and before is the environment and no one I knew here. I need do everything by myself. I need to make everything good. I know to live alone do not mean you are independent. I also need to think about myself, think about my future and what I’ve gone through to make me who I am at this very moment. I was a scared kid when I first came to the United States, but now I see myself as an independent, individual that is more open to new learning experiences and cultures. I think I am doing well. I can control myself. I know what I should do and what I should be in the future. I have clear goal and I’m trying my best to be the person that I want to be. I know no one will push me again, so I need to push myself. I must study hard and try doing everything better. I need tell myself every time: I cannot waste time anymore; I need to study so I can earn my credits and get my degree. Then I can get closer to my goal.
I am not sure what I is the difference between high school and college in USA, because I never to high school here. I just know what the difference is between high school in China and college in USA. It was tough the first couple of years I studied in college in the USA, trying to adapt to the culture and learning the new language but I knew that if I worked hard things would certainly get easier. It is very hard to study in college in USA, everything changes, but I think I can handle it. Everything will be good.

College is meant to be the best few years of a person's life, and I have to say I agree. When it comes to college there are many ways a person can go about their experiences, they could join a sports team, fulfill the college dream of partying every weekend, or they could be like me, a person who has spent most of their time so far stressing over classes and studying like a madman. No matter how a person goes about their college experience, each option has the potential to be an intimidating one. With the sports team outcome, there comes fear of not being as talented as some teammates, partying comes with the fear of not fitting in with the cool crowd, and lastly, consistent studying and stressing results in the fear of not being good enough and not reaching the ideal GPA. While college can be intimidating, it is a very rewarding experience, I have improved my writing skills, I have received an average grade in this course, and I have learned a few important lessons from my hectic first semester.…

Whether we are starting college fresh out of high school, or coming back later in life makes no difference to the instructor or our classmates. We are held to the same level of responsibility as everyone else in the class, and are expected to turn our assignments in on time, etc. This is vital especially when it comes to working in learning teams, as we not only let ourselves down when we do not complete something on time; we let our entire team down as well. There is a domino effect that happens when we start becoming lazy with our schoolwork. Once a person gets behind, it is much harder to become motivated to catch up! In our textbook Becoming a Master Student, the author states how time is not a renewable resource. It is one thing (unlike most other things in life) that we cannot get back, and once a minute is gone, it is gone forever, so we need to use our time wisely (Ellis, 2011). It is so important to keep our goals in mind, especially when things seem hard or monotonous, so as not to waste the precious little time we have. Ellis (2011) also states “You do have enough time for the things you want to do. All it takes is thinking about the possibilities and making conscious choices” (p.…
