Society needs engineers that can and will change the world. Meeting today's growing global demands, coupled with safeguarding our environment is what really intrigues me. I want to study Chemical Engineering because of its increasingly significant role in our society, particularly across a variety of industries from petrochemicals to environmental technology. It is an extremely versatile subject which provides a unique opportunity to be involved in the development and manufacture of a wide range of products, an aspect that I look forward to learning about. Chemical Engineering incorporates Mathematics and Chemistry, which is another reason why I am drawn to the subject. Through my A Level studies I have come to love these subjects and want to continue studying them. I feel that all my A Level choices complement each other perfectly and have encouraged me to develop skills beneficial to the study of Chemical Engineering, such as critical analysis and research. Mathematics and Chemistry have sharpened my methodical thinking and logical problem solving skills. Laboratory work in Chemistry has always been exciting to me from a young age. From learning about wet tests to practical work such as the hydrolysis of an ester, my passion for the subject in its entirety has increased. This was observed and acknowledged by taking many years of chemistry throughout high school. My immediate goal after obtaining my bachelors degree is to get my masters. With a masters degree, it will provide me the opportunity to take higher courses to finally pursue my career. I believe my future opportunities are endless and I look forward to increase my knowledge through courses and graduate studies at TAMU. With the ever growing petroleum industry in Texas, I believe me and my career field will improve on the lives of many Texans. With my educational background, research experience, and my desire to keep learning, I am capable of handling the challenges my career will bring.

The move Amistad and the story “Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano” have many similarities. The three similarities between the story and Amistad are the ways that the slaves were treated, the conditions of the ships, and the reactions of the slaves. In both the movie and the book slaves had to overcome horrific conditions to be freed, In the movie the main character Cinque was captured sold and thrown onto the Amistad and into the life of slavery but yet he was fought for and he finally made it home, In the story Olaudah finally was also on a slave ship and was sold into slavery.…

Throughout this novel there are a lot of characters worthy of comparing and contrasting, however I've decided to analyze Matsu, and Stephen relationship. The base of Matsu and Stephen relationship sort of reminds me of a George and Lennie relationship from the “Of Mice and Men Tale”, in which George carries around Lennie like a helpless pet by caring for him, guiding him through life, and bailing him out of the sticky situations he gets himself in.…

All people no matter who they are and no matter if they realize it or not, surround themselves with people who act or think like them, this is because humans naturally want to interact with people who share the same ideas and beliefs as they do themselves. When interacting with new or different people it can cause one to have mixed feelings about the experience. The opinion about a new group can either be positive or negative but having the experience is important to be able to decide a reasonable judgment about the unknown culture.…

As a student of the UIC's Honor College I believe that I will bring new innovative ideas to my fellow students and to those around me. I not only will aspire to better myself, but to encourage those around me to be the best student they can be. As the youngest sibling I have endured through many challenges. From struggling to explain my opinion about a subject in a way that will back up my reasoning to asserting my role as a leader. Although at times I have felt like giving up, I have prevailed. I learned how to state my opinion in a way that is informative, yet not rude. One challenge that I felt I excelled in exceptionally is being a leader. I have immersed myself in multiple school activates that leadership is a necessity. I am currently the president of the twelfth grade book club and a board member of the Senior Committee. With the skills that I have learned as a result of those positions I will be able to implement them in the classroom and in school events. As a student of UIC’s Honor College I plan to make use of all the advantages given to me. With the benefits provided to me I plan to take advantage of the honor courses that apply to Physical Therapy. I would also like to study abroad if I were given the opportunity to because I believe that you can learn a lot by immersing yourself in different cultures. It would be an honor for me to take part in the Honor College as a tutor because as a student who has had the experience of being both a tutor and a student I know that it can be a rewarding experience.…

The Golden State is the central idea of my collage essay, and my collage itself. California inspires me in so many ways and I feel I have represented that throughout my collage. Style, fashion, meeting amazing people, and the individualism that comes with being a Californian has given me such a broader outlook on the uniqueness of the state that I live in and has being my inspiration. I honestly think that living in California has given students that wish to pursue a creative career, including me, a much bigger advantage in reaching goals and aspirations.…

“Engineering is not merely knowing and being knowledgeable, like a walking encyclopaedia; engineering is not merely analysis; engineering is not merely the possession of the capacity to get elegant solutions to non-existent engineering problems; engineering is practicing the art of the organised forcing of technological change… Engineers operate at the interface of science and society.” - Dean Gordon Brown. Prior to starting secondary school at Spotswood College at the age of 13, I had little knowledge of the vast opportunities that the field of science offers, nor did I realise how intriguing and exciting science can be. It was in my first year at high school that was introduced to general science, a subject which I would continue to study for three years. I found that the areas within the science curriculum that I enjoyed the most were practical, real-life situations that were relevant to the real world, not just the world within the school laboratory. The process of applying scientific methods to solve real-life problems continued to interest and intrigue me throughout my years of studying general science, and I soon realised that science was the field that I wanted a career in. This idea hasn’t changed. In my second year of high school at Spotswood College, I was offered the chance to take part in an extension program in Chemistry before school three times a week, as well as continuing with general science as a subject. Throughout this year, I was continually amazed at the many different fields that chemistry, and also science as a whole, is composed of, yet once again it was the real-life, real-world applications that interested me. It was at this time that I started researching engineering as a career option. By the time I reached Year 12, I had to decide which fields of science I wanted to continue studying in. Throughout my previous years at high school I had found that it was the fields of…

My first career choice is to become a chemical engineer. Recently I've been talking to my guidance counselor and asking what careers would interest me due to my great fascination for math. I added that I also enjoy the work done in my chemistry class, such as stoichiometry and balancing equations. Her first suggestion was obviously to be a chemical engineer. Before this discussion with my guidance counselor, I never put two and two together to realize that my own Uncle Keith is a chemical engineer himself. I have seen him in the past working on things for work and saw the math that was involved but never knew that's what he did for a living. Chemical Engineers are often intimately involved in research and development, process engineering, and product development. A typical situation that a Chemical Engineer may be put in may be something like finding a way to manufacture a chemical developed in the laboratory at larger scales. The significant feature about Chemical Engineers is that they are employed in a range of industries including petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, bioengineering, pulp and paper products, ceramics, specialty chemicals, and electronics. They can also enter medicine, business, and law. That means possible careers could range from working for NASA to engineering the world's best cosmetics, which I think is pretty cool. In view of their lack of females in this field, women engineers are in demand and therefore receive better earning potential.…
