College Admissions Essay: The Passion That Changed My Life
As Forrest Gump once said on a park bench, “ My mama always said there’s an awful lot you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, where they’re going, where they’ve been.” As I get older, the more I realize everyone has a story to be heard. However, mine cannot be told by the shoes I wear on my feet. It can be told by the way I carry myself through everyday life. At a young age I quickly became accustomed to chaos. My father’s second home was a prison cell, and my mother’s first love was drugs. This caused tremendous stress on my siblings and I, myself being the second youngest of four. Despite all of the adversities I have faced thus far, I can take pride in saying I will be a first generation high school graduate with aspirations of college.
I am fighting becoming a statistic. For a long time, I was angry at my life. I often questioned myself, “What did I do to deserve this?” The answer is absolutely nothing, but this is my life and I have control of it. I turned my frustration into motivation. If no one else was going to motivate me, I had to myself. I started off junior year losing my home due to my mother’s drug …show more content…
I want to change that, thus creating my passion to become a family therapist or social worker. I have seen first hand how different people can be when they have a positive influence in their lives. I want to be the person I needed when I was younger. Furthering my education will not only help myself, but others who are in need! I think it’s imperative that mental health should be taken seriously, and more people need to take action. Helping others is something I’ve always taken pride in. My friends and family always come to me in difficult times- whether they need a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, or just need someone to listen. Because of this, it is no surprise that I want to dedicate my career and greater part of my adult life to helping
