College Admissions Essay: Growing Up As A Computer
Passion is a wierd thing; it's not something you have control over. For some it may be drawing, for others it maybe studying, but for me, it comes down to three things: sports, computers, and music. Growing up, I was always fascinated by computers, at the young age of 4, I discovered how to use a computer and at 5, I started playing video games. When I was half-way throught kindergarten, my family moved back to Taiwan from Japan. In Japan we didnt take naps, but it is required in Taiwan. Growing up in a different system, it was hard for me to adapt; so instead of going to sleep after lunch, I was allowed to go to the computer lab and explore how to use different computer softwares. It was not long till I was in 4th grade when I received my first windows laptop and soon in 6th grade, I received my first Macbook Pro. …show more content…

In my quest for passion, I often bite off more than I can chew. I want to create, whether it be photographs, art, or music. The problem is, I never stick to one hobby long enough to master any set of skills. I'll be honest, the coding class I recently took threw another wrench in my quest. I enjoyed that class so much it made me rethink my career path and my degree plan. I have recorded multiple songs, finished dozens of art pieces, and taken thousands of photographs in the past ten years.…

My life started out like the beginning of a perfect childhood. Both of my parents had steady, well-paying government jobs, we had moved into a new home and even bought a puppy. All was harmonious, until my parents decided we would have a better life in Canada. Leaving behind everything and everyone we knew was probably one of the hardest things my parents ever did for my brother and me. Struggling to fit in and assimilate was least of our problems, trying to make a decent income became a priority. My parents, who were well educated and accomplished, were compelled to settle for multiple meager jobs like a cashier at a fast food restaurant or a security guard at an apartment building. They held as many jobs as they could, working…

Transferring to me is not just about getting my diploma, it is to teach myself discipline. Growing up in an immigrant family, you are held to a high standard within any regard. My parents always have tried to give me the best and expect for me to give the very best in anything I do. Coming from a family where no one graduated college was a tough thing for me being the oldest child. It lead to lost discipline and motivation in high school because I had no guidance for my future in education.
