When most people think of character they often associate it with the idea of having to do the right thing. I on the other hand believe character is more than just doing what is morally righteous. Our experiences, obstacles and most importantly, passion define our true character. Passion establishes the difference between obligation or choice and giving up or persevering. Our actions result from the passion we choose to dedicate towards different aspects of our lives including school, work, extracurricular activities and community service. Everyone values these aspects differently and that is what allows for each of us to have our own unique character. I believe people have a more powerful influence when they have a true sense of passion for what they are doing.…

When joining a club you become involved with the school and your surroundings, For example, I knew a lot of people at school, but after joining the club I joined other things that got me a connection with the people who worked in the community, other schools, and also the people who worked in offices. It showed me ways on how to communicate with different people and people who have the same goals, so I could get a better understanding of what’s going on around me and be a team. This benefited me for the better because I learned how to become better-rounded and learn other great key concepts to life. For example, I learned how to manage my time efficiently because of the fact that I was trying to fit time in for homework, practice, club duties, and me time in my life. I am a graduate from Glen Oaks Community College and I would love to continue my education with Glen Oaks and their Nursing Program. I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. Working two jobs, one being a Nursing Assistant and Unit Technician at The Community Health Center of Branch County and the other doing in home care for an elderly patient, does make it difficult to find free time. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. I am proud to say that I have paid for me education with my hard work. I hope with the help of Glen Oaks Community College I can obtain a new satisfaction of becoming a nurse. I am spending my time volunteering at St. Marks United Methodist Church (St. Marks UMC). This church is an open community, working to create a comfortable atmosphere for anyone and everyone in and around the area. I work specifically with the youth of the church and I reach out to students who are my age or younger than me. I have been volunteering at St. Marks for almost four years, assisting in many different groups and organizations sponsored by our church. I volunteer at this church because it has given me an opportunity to be myself, explore talents, and make strong connections, and I want to help continue this effort and reach out to kids who are struggling with a lot of the same difficulties I faced. I believe that volunteering here is a great experience for someone studying psychology because you meet and get to know many kids who are facing various issues in their lives.…

College is an open door to many opportunities especially for someone like me who comes from a conservative culture in which most believe the working field is not for women. Times have changed and yet an employed woman is looked down upon. Many girls dream about having a bright future only to see it shatter once they become older and their opportunities are seized. I want to be able to beat the odds and go against the old-fashioned beliefs of my culture. To do so I need to achieve a higher education. I am planning on attending a community college to receive my two years of general education and then graduate to a university to major in physical therapy. I have excelled in high school, will continue to do so in college, and be able to graduate from college.…

Helping others and the community has really been a passion for me. Serving as a youth leader at church, Key Club officer, and being in many community service clubs has developed this passion to a high extent. I have helped my local church every saturday and tuesday afternoons pick up food and distributing it to the needy. With community service clubs, I have worked with pop up eye doctors and help determine if people suffer from glaucoma which has been one of my favorite duties I have done because it gives you a real hands on experience and you actually make a change in people’s life in helping them receive treatment.Community wise, I helped paint a wall that was vandalised and clean up a very dirty neighborhood.
