There are two components to the CBT family; Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Therapy (CT). Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy was developed by psychiatrist, Dr. Albert Ellis. REBT takes a comprehensive approach to psychological treatment that deals with the emotional and behavioral aspects of human disturbance, but with emphasis on the cognitive component (Gomathy & Singh, 2007). Ellis believed that psychological problems originate from misperceptions and mistaken cognitions about what was perceived. Additionally, problems also occur from emotional under reactions or over reactions to normal and unusual stimuli; and from habitual dysfunctional behavior patterns which enabled them to keep repeating non-adjustive responses…
A lady came into the emergency room, she felt as though she had maybe had a stroke. We started to ask her questions, we asked her how long she had been feeling this way and she told us five days. She was then ask, what some of her symptoms were. She began to tell us that she was preparing for a weekend in Vegas when she noticed that her left I started to jump, she thought nothing of it. It the jumping persisted, it continued to annoy her. The woman began to say that she carried on with her plans. She then notice that her eyebrows would not move on that side and that her taste was different. Her tongue began to feel numb as well. She began to cry because she really felt as though she had a stroke and why did she not have any symptoms or any illnesses that could provoke it to happen. She said that what really made her come in was that her mouth began to twist and her eye drooped. Then the doctor asked her questions about her last time she gave birth or maybe a sinus infection or something that dealt with her stressing.…
The appropriate short-term goals for this intervention are designed for the client to help reduce fear. The client should join a support group with other individuals that suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The support group should be conducted by a licensed professional. The Client should be able to identify when the fear is taking over his life. The client should also make a list of items that appear to have a positive and negative effect on dealing with the fear. Along with the list of positive and negatives, the client should make a list of items that stimulate the fear. Leaning different interests and creating…
The therapist would most likely teach one to stop behavior that would lead to an increase in anxiety, such as body vigilance. The therapist may also use exposure therapy, to have Wally directly address his fears in a safe environment, where he can learn to adjust to his anxiety. Also, because Wally has felt a little depressed I might subscribe anti-depressant medication, which could relieve such symptoms as anxiety, or intense fear of disease. (http://www.mayoclinic.com…
He does not talk about his family, which seems to be an interesting area because he only talks about himself.…
The treatment I would recommend Mr. X is cognitive-behavioral therapy. According to Beck most cognitive-behavioral therapy has been of the two best-known psychotherapies for unipolar depression (Beck). Cognitive-behavioral therapy will help Mr. X deal with his current problems. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a good way to help Mr. X evaluate how accurate his dysfunctional and negative beliefs of himself are. Cognitive-behavioral therapy will also uncover where his pessimistic beliefs are deriving from and how to change those beliefs. In addition, I would also like Mr. X to attend family and marital therapy. It appears that his symptoms had been present for years. This could mean that his family contributed to the offset of his depression.…

I would recommend Cognitive and Behavioral therapy approach for Lucy. This approach is best for those dealing with personality, anxiety, mood, etc. disorders (Stangor, 2010). They both are short-term and is preferred over long-term because it can lead to dependence on a therapist (Psych Central, 2013). The idea of cognitive therapy is that changing thoughts will change emotions, and that the new emotions will then influence behavior. The goal of cognitive therapy is not necessarily to get people to think more positively but rather to think more accurately (Stangor, 2010). The Behavioral approach is the Psychological treatment that is based on principles of learning. With both approaches suggestions I would make would be assertiveness training to help…
There are a few forms of treatment for borderline personality disorder, one of which is dialectical behavior therapy. DBT is a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral treatment for mental disorders that are typically difficult to treat. It was originally developed to help chronically suicidal individuals, but it evolved into a treatment for multi-disordered individuals with BPD or other behavioral disorders (Dimeff & Linehan, 2001).…
Mental illnesses are more readily labeled today than at any other time in history. Today it is estimated that approximately 26 percent of the American adult population suffers from some mental illness. Growth in this number will likely skyrocket as a younger generation grows out of the category of the age of onset ‘teens’ into young adults. When it is commonplace for patients to hesitate before questioning their doctors, the possibility of becoming overwhelmed in a sea of side effects that are worse than the threat they encounter from the disorder grows. While it is difficult to narrow medicine down to a one size fits all answer, a look at a specific personality disorder, in which the patient is often misdiagnosed or labeled as normal…
Community Mental Health (CMH) is a behavioral and mental health agency in partnership with consumers and communities focusing on helping individuals experience recovery and participate fully in community life. Take Nancy for example, she could be one of many clients in a CMH worker's caseload. Nancy Little is a 50-year old Caucasian woman. Nancy is divorced and currently lives in her apartment alone. Nancy's mother and daughter are her main support. Nancy demonstrates a willingness to participate in her scheduled appointments with Community Mental Health. Her daughter provides transportation to appointments and monitors Nancy periodically due to her history of prescription drug abuse. Nancy states that she would like to be stable enough to…
when treating adolescents with alcohol used disorder and major depressive disorder (Cornelius et al, 2013), and produces significant improvement when compared to “treat as usual” in a community clinic setting (Barrington et al, 2005). As shown by research, CBT is useful when treating various diagnoses, effective in multiple settings, and valuable as it can be used in a multicultural context. Another strength of CBT is its flexibility. It can be used in inpatient, outpatient, and partial treatment settings.…
It should be noted that there are no widely accepted or published best practice standards of mental health care in juvenile detention settings.…
Since its inception, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been at the forefront of addressing clinical problems within student populations (Allen, 2011). Created by psychiatrist Aaron Beck, in 1960's, cognitive-behavioral therapy is an empirically researched therapy method that specializes in finding solutions to current problems and teaching clients skills to alter dysfunctional thinking and behavior ("What is Cognitive Behavior Therapy | Beck Institute," n.d.). While CBT was initially developed for adults suffering from specific disorders such as depression, anxiety, and phobias, CBT has found success in addressing cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social, interpersonal development of children and adolescents (Joyce-Beaulieu & Sulkowski,…
