"If you want a close-up view you should move yourself if it is possible. The trouble is that so many photographers seem afraid to move in." (Lord Snowdon) How can moving close to a subject change and improve a photograph? Why do you think many photographers use their lens to get closer rather than moving closer to the subject?…
Realism is a style that emphasizes documentary truth with minimal image manipulation. The illusion of an objective photographic world is maintained. Subject matter - the objective world, real people stories based on real experience. Technique - little or no photographic or editorial manipulation, naturalistic performances. Examples – The Edison and Lumière films. Linklatter’s, Before Midnight. Mike Leigh’s, Another Year.…
False friendships relate closely to failed communication. Many of the friendships in the novel have no basis in affection. For instance, Jake meets a bicycle team manager, and the two have a drink together. They enjoy a friendly conversation and make plans to meet the next morning. Jake, however, sleeps through their meeting, having no regard for the fact that he will never see the man…
During the course study Stephanie used to write notes and realized that the ideas they were learning in their course and class could be connected to the relationship which Stephanie was experiencing at the moment. When Stephanie learned and researched about the paradoxes of culture, she was figuring out how to best correspond with the international players in her tennis group. Along with that, Stephanie also learned about conflict management as she was having issues with her flat mate. Throughout the semester, Stephanie considered the class as her relationship survival manual. It was incredible to have the capacity to take what is definitely thought about interpersonal connections and correspondence, and appoint…
Old Acquaintance is a melodrama film that was released in 1943 by Warner Brothers, directed by Vincent Sherman. Melodrama films are dramatic and focus on exaggerating the plot and characters. This film was an adaptation of a John Van Druten play in 1940. Old Acquaintance kept to the melodrama genre well by dragging out seemingly useless stories that often had nothing to do with the issue at hand, such as Millie Drake’s daughter having frivolous sexual relations with brought in characters that in a modern film era would be filled by cameos of well known actors. This was to increase emotional attachment to characters, in this case Kit Marlowe’s intuition of someone close’s well being. Classic melodrama filming techniques were used, such as close ups on character faces with much exaggerated emotions being displayed. The movie is named after the finishing conversation of a novel that Millie Drake was writing about the actions that took place throughout the movie.…
These ideas are represented through numerous visual techniques within the photo. A salient image produced directs our attention to the lady sitting in the middle, isolated from the people around her. The salient image is produced by vector lines, that is the appearance of a circular shape or perimeter around the lady, this further influencing our idea of alienation. In addition the lady is placed in the very centre of the image drawing attention to her loneliness.…

Ever since women were given suffrage and more generally equal rights, there has been a rise of women in the common work places. Unfortunately, much of the business and high power corporations within the United States are under a patriarchy and women don’t get much of the power and pay as men do. Furthermore, women in the workplace just become “eye candy” or even objects of sexual fantasies for the men who hire them or for the men who work with or around them. Though women have fought to be equal along the side men, they continue to struggle in their everyday lives to match the power and pay that their male counterparts receive without any extra effort. However, in some rare cases, women have a subtle yet influential power. Unfortunately, this “power” is a double edged sword. On one side, the women can use their sexuality to gain power or use as a source of power. And on the other side, women who use their sexuality for gain is seen to be disrespectful, unprofessional, and pointless to the struggle of equalizing themselves to men.…

To begin I would like to define exactly what social location is, according to Henslin, "Social location is the group memberships that people have because of their location in history and society. Social location has to do with a person’s age, race, gender, job, income, and education.” (Henslin 2015 pg2)…

Because of the camera framing, the viewer can identify the main characters. The use of close up shots draws attention and focuses on the characters to show their expression and emotion.
