Film Review: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
“Have you recently had a close encounter?” quote from David Laughlin from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Well everyone who has ever seen the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind has had their own close encounter of some kind. Written and directed by Steven Spielberg and Produced by Colombia Pictures in association with EMI Films. Colombia Pictures the same year is credited with the production of four other films which include Bobby Deerfield staring Al Pacino, The Deadly Triangle staring Dale Robinette, Fun With Dick and Jane staring George Segal and Jane Fonda, and last but not least Confessions from a Holiday Camp staring Robin Askwith. Although Colombia Pictures was credited with five productions in the year 1977 no picture was as monumental as the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Directed by Steven Spielberg backed with an incredible cast including Richard Dreyfuss as (Roy Neary), François Truffaut as (Claude Lacombe), Teri Garr as (Ronnie Neary), and Melinda Dillon as (Gillian Guiler). Close Encounters of the Third Kind is an epic science fiction adventure about a disparate group of people who attempt to contact extraterrestrial life forms. Roy Neary is an electrical lineman who while sent out on emergency repairs has a close encounter of the first kind by witnessing an unidentified flying object, and even has a "sunburn" from its bright lights to prove it. Roy’s wife and children are at first skeptical, then concerned, and eventually fearful, as Roy refuses to accept a “logical” explanation for what he saw and is prepared to give up his job, his home, and his family to pursue the "truth" about 2
UFOs, “I guess you've noticed something a little strange with Dad. It's okay, though. I'm still Dad.” Quoted Neary from the film. Meanwhile, governments all around the world experience a close encounter of the second kind, by finding physical evidence of alien visitors. Including planes and ships that were once

Anthony Harvey's The Glass Menagerie was definitely a movie to remember. A movie to remember to never watch again. In the entire duration of this film I can only say I experienced two things; boredom and well, sheer boredom. The Glass Menagerie, was originally written by Tennessee Williams in 1945 and it was the first of the playwright's many Broadway successes. Williams is also responsible for classics such as A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. This remake of The Glass Menagerie, did not do Williams any justice.…

In her article entitled “Close Encounters of the Prehistoric Kind”, Science Magazine correspondent Ann Gibbons explains that due to interbreeding between Neanderthals and early modern humans, modern humans still contain traces of prehistoric Neanderthal DNA. According to researchers, Asians and Europeans most likely possess a higher frequency of Neanderthal genomes than Africans because the two species “occupied the [same regions] intermittently” in Europe, the Midwest, the Near East, and Russia and may have coexisted with one another for up to 10,000 years before the Neanderthal lineage died out. The article explains that Neanderthal genomes are present in “many people living outside of Africa” as there was not enough interbreeding occurring…

I have to say that this is one good movie, its pretty different from your average WWII movie. Its not as propaganda based as your American war movies like saving private Ryan or pearl harbour. In this movie we get to see the war effort from the Russian communist point of view. Its like a hide and seek thriller that uses the battle of Stalingrad as a disguise for the battle of courage and determination that we see going on, on the big screen. A lot of historians say that the battle of Stalingrad was the most unpleasant and devastating one fought. Writer/Director Jean-Jacques Annaud, writer Alain Goddard, and cinematographer Robert Fraisse treat the subject matter with great care towards authenticity and entertainment value. They keep things in all simplicity, no flashy special effects or any silly bullet time. Just film, actors, and a camera.…
