Classroom Observation
Observational Study
We all live in a world where we focus on tomorrow and what will happen next. We don’t take the time to look around and try to make sense of the things we see. We need to slow things down, just watch, and then think of why we do the things we do or why we interact in the ways we do. As I did my observation, my goal was to see how individuals interacted with others through the use of their space.
The main entrance has a ramp and two newspaper dispensers outside; a Christmas tree is in a window. There is a main dining area to the left and a larger dining area past that. To the right is a register and further down, a counter where you can sit and eat. Behind the counter are glass plates with designs of hot air balloons, perched

The man had gray hair and wore glasses and the woman had short, brown hair and wore glasses. They looked around for an empty booth and walked towards one across the room from my mom and me; there was also one behind my mom that was empty. The man let the woman sit first before he moved to the other side, took his jacket off, and sat down himself; she kept her coat on. The woman sat in the booth with her back to the entrance, and he sat facing the entrance. They both rested their forearms on the table as they talked to each other. The waitress brought them waters and came back a second time to take their orders. As the man talked to the woman, he was tapping his hand on the table. She was sitting straight up, held his eye contact, and leaned in towards the table as she listened to him.
A couple booths away, two elderly men who seemed to be older than 60, were sitting across from each other. Both had gray hair, wrinkles, and both wore glasses; the man with his back to the entrance had a mustache. The man who sat facing the entrance was wearing a winter hat with flaps on the side and on the front as they ate lunch. They both chewed slowly and seemed to talk very little. The man wearing the winter hat looked around the room when they weren’t talking to each other. When the waitress came to their table, they both smiled at her as they spoke with

After they order their drinks, they quietly find a table and sit down and begin to speak. They appear to be businessmen. The first is average looking. His features are harsh with dark blonde hair that reaches his ears and small framed glasses that rest at the crown of his nose. His face is thin, and his dull brown eyes are set far apart. The other man, however, is especially striking. His clothes, a deep blue, collared long sleeved shirt and a pair of chino pants combined with his manicured…

It was obvious that Ms. Brown had created a plan for this lesson by observing the progression of the skills that were being taught and that they were presented in a logical order that aided student comprehension. Both the students and the teacher were familiar with the skills and the delivery. She also posts lesson plans online. Objectives and expectations of the lesson were communicated to the students on a special place on the board, at the front of the class with essential questions and " I can" statements. Ms. Brown was able to gain the students' attention for the lesson with a hook type activity. It was an engaging question for the student to answer that was related to the topic. Students worked independently, in pairs and in groups and read a selection either by themselves or with another student. The material was then presented in a graphic organizer by the teacher with illustrations and relevant examples provided by the students. They also read the selection (either our loud to a partner or to themselves) and then the material was displayed in the form of a graphic organizer for the visual learners. Ms. Brown used PowerPoint to present the material.…

I observed Mr. Dave’s pre-k class at Montclair pre-school. I arrived at the classroom at 8:00 am to accessed the classroom as well to speak to Mr. Dave. We reviewed the day’s plan as I helped him clean up. While cleaning around the room I noticed how colorful the room was. There were: banners of letters and numbers hanging on the wall, as well as a large alphabet carpet on the floor for the kids to sit on, toys to play with and books to read. As the children arrived, they removed their belongings and placed them in the cubbies. Afterwards, they grabbed their name tags and set their lunchboxes on the lunchbox table. I played with the kids until class started at 9:00…

While waiting on our meals to be prepared, I began to look around and notice the different designs, artifacts, and other individuals in the restaurant. The first people I noticed were the group of what looked like college kids from Heidelberg University. There were two guys and one girl, and their communication was very verbal, so I will not include all the details about them. The first nonverbal actions I noticed after our food arrived were by two middle aged guys. They looked as if they had a hard day’s work, wearing jeans, construction boots, and paint splatters from head to toe. It was quite obvious the two were friends by the nonverbal cues they sent off to observers such as me. They sat across from one another one man leaning sideways with his legs up in the booth, and the other man sat with his legs wide open and elbows on the table. (They looked relaxed) Their kinesics action was them using their hands…
