This year I’ll be working in a middle school teaching sixth grade. I believe it is very important to set a great foundation for sixth graders. At this level of learning I believe they have to learn discipline. Its important for students at this level to learn discipline to help them grow and mature as students. What better way to help them achieve this through setting in place rules and procedures for the classroom. Starting the year off setting rules will set the students in my classroom up for great success, if the they come in understanding what’s expected of them. Van Brummel suggests, “To create an optimal learning situation, indicate your expectations clearly.” One of these supports will be classroom rules. These rules will be for the entire classroom, which will be set at the beginning of the school year. The rules will be simple and easy to understand for young students. The rules as follows:…
Therefore, it makes a difference for a teacher to love what he/she do. Students can always tell if a teacher is passionate about his/her work. This also holds a key for student’s motivation. 4. Knowledgeable – It is very important for a teacher to master the subject, for a teacher cannot teach on a subject he/she does not understand. A knowledgeable instructor can act as an accessor to give feedback and correction. 5. Interactive – A good teacher should be able to create a teaching environment where all students are able to participate equally. The previous mentioned qualities are all important that a good teacher should have; however, “passion” stand above all the rest. Passion is the key for one to improve him/herself and to enjoy the environment. It is difficult to make someone to want education, but it is a teacher’s responsibility to motivate his/her student to work hard and to improve. Without passion one will not be able to create a suitable…

The classroom is set up with 27 students. The students’ desks are all facing the front of the classroom. Her class consisted of a whiteboard, smart board, and projector. Mrs. Pettway desk is also stationed at the front of the classroom where she is able to see each student. The students are seated in the classroom in alphabetical order facing the white board where the…
To me, discipline is a process that enables students to learn to manage their own behaviors in a classroom setting. These learned skills will then carry over as valuable assets in their future careers as students, professionals and parents. I have come to look at management as facilitating the process of learning by establishing expectations in a classroom setting that allow for gains in academics, social behaviors and personal growth. Both of these tools combined are symbiotic in that they support each other and provide the teacher and students with a way to function together at an optimal level.…
I believe Classroom Management is the key component in any educational setting. I believe that if students are in a safe environment, then learning can take place. This doesn’t necessarily mean punishing behavior problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students would not be able to learn.…
William Glasser is one of the greatest educational thinkers during the 20th and 21st Century. He contends that student behavior will not improve until educators and administrators change the way they work with students. Trying to force students to learn behavior responsibly is hopeless because it is contrary to their natural inclinations. Glasser believes all human behavior is purposeful. We can not blame anyone else but ourselves for good or improper behavior. He believes that students are satisfied with doing low-quality school work and unwilling to make an effort to learn.…

Allowing their natural curiosity to direct his/her learning I impose rules and procedures inside the classroom. Punishments are given but not resulting to having fear on me instead giving it in a subtle way. In that case they won’t resort to any inappropriate action and they will follow the rules appropriately. Rules such as listening to teachers while talking, raising their hands when they have questions and…
A visual copy of the daily schedule is posted in the room to allow students to follow and anticipate the progress of activities. It also helps keep the staff on track in terms of time management throughout the day. The curriculum is designed to address core academic skills, as well as fulfill individual IEP goals for each student. Basic self help and social skills are integrated into each activity. Visual supports are routinely used with each activity in order to gain and hold students attention, build language skills, and foster an increased comprehension of what is being…
A.I observed the following things in the classroom. There is a rolling cart with a TV on it, in front of the classroom. There is an overhead projector sitting to the left of the teacher and a filing cabinet. There is a teacher’s podium to the right of a wipe off board that the students can see. There is another wipe off board on the right side of the classroom. There is a sorter on the teacher’s desk to help keep the students organized. The students desk are facing the front and to the side in the classroom. The desks are placed back from the front allowing room for moving around. In another room setting the desks are grouped together in groups of 4-6. The desks face each other allowing more room for the teacher to move around and work more with the students.…

Teachers must be firm on their expectations and apply consequences to infractions when not followed, such as a calming area for when students need a time away from something before being allowed to enter an area for reflection on how to better improve with their behavior and actions. Teachers and paraeducators need to be aware of the rules and expectations as well. Another example of an expectation is that students must have their homework completed by the due date or loss of points may be applied. Students need to learn responsibility for their own actions when they do and do not complete their work assignments on time because this will help build dependability and reliability in student’s…
