During a ship’s will always have Sailors on watch. There are probably more than a hundred different types of watches, depending on the ship or station. Whatever type of watch, the watch stander must devote full attention to it. The ship’s watches are manned by its personnel to keep the ship running smoothly every hour of the day. Watches vary, of course, depending on both the type of ship and whether the ship is under way or in port. Even when the ship is moored in port and receiving it’s services (utilities, such as steam, water, and electricity) from the pier or another ship, it is necessary to maintain a watch for communications, security, and safety. During your time in the Navy, you will be required to stand many watches. Some watches will be of a security nature, such as a pier sentry or roving patrol; others will be operational, such as …show more content…
Not paying attention or negligence on your part can result in serious consequences for the ship and your fellow shipmates It is your responsibility to check the watch bill daily. You should check for any changes made in your assigned watches or even to refresh your memory for said watches as well as to make note of any changes in the schedule for the ship. When an abandon ship drill, or a fire drill, or even an anti-terrorism drill is held, for instance, you should not have to take time to find out what your station is and where it is located. A shipmate’s life may depend on you to be where you are assigned to be should an actual event occur. Most of the watches in the Navy are of 4 hours duration. Time off between watches depends on the number of sections and the number of personnel in each station. Normally, watches start on the even hours, such as 0400, 0800, or 1200. However, you should arrive at your station at least 15 minutes ahead of time (30 minutes onboard Boxer) to receive any important or pertinent information from the person you are

Punishment for violating Article Eighty-six of the UCMJ is left to the discretion of the member's direct chain of command. Whether that be an NCO, Staff NCO, or Officer. The first violation is typically a verbal or written counseling, second a written counseling along with a specific form of deterrence such as: reporting in to the duty NCO every four hours through out the day, even in the members off time. Third violation will usually result in a much harsher punishment such as a Page Eleven, Sixty-one Zero-five, or Nonjudicial Punishment, Court-Martial, and Administrative separation from the service. If taken to Nonjudicial Punishment member could end up losing rank, pay, and be confined to restriction. It is all about accountability. Though normally accountability is an individual responsibility it may become a unit responsibility or the responsibility of a superior to ensure you are where you are supposed to be at the appointed time.     There are many important reasons to be checking your gear constantly to keep proper issued gear accountability as an Infantryman in the United States Marine Corps or any other MOS in the Marine Corps as well. It is the Marines responsibility to always have proper issued gear accountability at all times. Whenever you have a pause through your patrols, raids, or movements the Marines always want to take a quick check to make sure that you have your issued or serialized gear as well as everything else that you or your team of Marines came on that mission with. It is your job to take responsibility and check yourself as well as your other marines to ensure nothing has gone missing. Proper issued gear accountability can range from the most important pieces of Marine Corps issued gear such as your rifle all the way down to your tourniquet. You always want to have serialized issued gear such as your night vision goggles dummy corded to your body. In doing so your issued gear that can be dummy corded is dummy corded to you, you will have a lot less chance to loose any of your gear or anything else you are carrying with you. In case that a Marine is moving or running, even if your issued gear comes absent from the pouch or pocket you are carrying them in they will not come completely off your body. Any serialized issued gear that the Marine is carrying on that Marines body needs to always be dummy corded to that Marine or even attached the Marines flak jacket. That also includes dummy cording the issued gear that is attached to that Marines rifle directly. If you lose gear that is crucial to the mission then that means that you have to stop find it and then move on and that takes time we as marines don’t have to waste, every second is vital.     In today’s army, being on time can be a paramount activity. Consequences for not showing up on time can be disastrous. In a normal job, you get up, go to work, and come home, and that is the limit of the level of involvement. The army is not one of those jobs. In the army we are constantly training our mind and bodies for a combat environment. In such an environment, the level of involvement must be much higher. It is understood that any mistake, however seemingly small can have extreme consequences. Among those consequences are situations which can lead to soldiers losing their lives. Although the previous mentioned situation is extreme, it is not all together unlikely. Habits developed in training are expected to show themselves in the battlefield. A soldier who exhibits’ a military way of life, with care to physical fitness, mental readiness, and punctuality have a much better chance of survival. It has been said that all that is necessary to be successful in the army is to be in the right place, in the right time, in the right uniform. That, if a soldier can accomplish that, their leaders will that them through any and all tasks. Being at the place of duty at the correct time is critical because every soldier is waiting on a member of the team. Each unit is given so many personnel. Each unit is also tasked missioner. The soldiers in each unit work as a team, with a tempo and common expectation to fulfill the mission at hand. Being late is not an option in the army. Whether it’s getting ready to walk behind the lines of the battlefield or in the FOB turning wrenches, being focused, mission ready and on time is heavily important to the task at hand to get the mission complete. Not being punctual causes changes in schedules. Majority of the times its best to be on time simply because it shows that you are responsible and professional at what you do.
