Cause and Effect:

Slavery had a negative impact on the United States because it led to the Civil War, it led to a divided segregated nation, and it deprived African Americans of an equal opportunity to succeed. Imagine not being able to a certain bathroom or go to the same school as other people. What if you had to follow the unfair rules of society just because your skin color isn’t white? These were the disadvantages of colored people. Not being able to live a great life and having the same rights as white people, and not being able to become something important in life. Slavery was one of the causes of the Civil War. The North and the South fought because it was morally wrong, but also because of the economics of slavery and the political

There were many reasons for the Civil War. As an example, most people feel as if the Civil War was about slavery, although recently we have found that it was actually about federal and state rights. Slavery was a small but effective role in the Civil War. The southern half of the United States were “slave states” as the north were “free states”, there were always an equal amount of slave and free states. The south and north had very different views and constantly got into disagreements with each other.…

Slavery did have some negative effects in the south since not everyone was wealthy enough to own slaves or own a big plantation. Small plantation owners did not really benefit from slavery. Since big plantation owners had more hand to do their work the more they produced. Compared to the small plantations who didn’t have as many hands to help they wouldn’t grow, or sell as much. Big plantations would dominate in the trade of goods in the south.…

Some historians argue that slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil War. As Robert E. Lee said, “In this enlightened age, there are few I believe, but what will acknowledge, that slavery as an institution is a moral and political evil in any country. It is useless to expatiate on its disadvantages.” I believe the statement that slavery was the primary cause of the American Civil War is true, because slavery was very controversial and became the symbol of disunion.…

A slave is a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them. Slavery in America began in 1614 in Jamestown, Virginia. By the year 1800 about four million slaves labored the southern states in the United States. It is said that the roots of the Civil War, which was fought, no matter the other theories, over the big problem of slavery, were implanted in the compromises of the Constitution on the controversy. That is likely to be true. Slavery, which began in cruelty and disorder in the kidnapping, shipping, and exchange of human capital, unfortunately required violence to eventually put a stop to it. After the travesty of the Revolutionary War and the strife in the U.S. because of the Articles, a moment of reconciliation and reconstruction was necessary to make the nation strong enough to a place where it could endure a civil war. The biggest misfortune is that in the almost 100 years from the start of the Revolutionary War and the ending of the Civil…

Slavery is what I believe caused the Civil War for many reasons. One reason why I think slavery was a major issue in the 1860s is because it divided the country into half free, and half slave. " A house divided against itself cannot stand [Doc F]." This quote from Abraham Lincoln shows how other people thought about the country, and slavery. Another reason why slavery caused the Civil War is because if the north kept its freedom and the south kept its slaves then the country is going to fall apart, not from the outside but from the inside. " I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free [Doc F]." Another quote from Abraham Lincoln. There is no way that a country can stand half and half, it would be logical to think that someday one will take over the other. Since Abraham Lincoln was nominated to be President, South got unhappy, quick. South Carolina threatened to secede and many people led revolts against slavery. This is what sparked America to go to war.…

If asked, most people would blame as the cause of the civil war the issue of slavery. This is understandable; many people in the U.S. at the time were against slavery, going to far as to help runaway slaves escape to the free north. But, while slavery at face value was a major factor, international politics and economics played a major role. Several factors, including the election of Lincoln, the raid on Harper 's Ferry, the Dred Scott decision, and, most importantly, the fugitive slave law, contributed to the growing rift between the North and South and, eventually, the Civil War.…

Albert Dietrich once wrote, “There are perhaps many causes worth dying for, but to me, certainly, there are none worth killing for” (36). When many think of what caused the Civil War, the first thing that pops into their head is slavery. This is what they teach us in elementary school. Every kid is taught about the North, the South, slavery, and Abraham Lincoln, but there was so much more to the Civil War than what was taught back then. First, slavery was not the only cause of the Civil War. There were many other issues besides slavery that had equal if not more influence on the start of the war. Two of these additional causes of the war, which began tensions between these two sides long before slavery, were politics and the economy.…
