Civil Rights Movement: Rosa Parks
New York Times once wrote "she had a permanent place in history" (531). Rosa Parks, the mother of the Civil Rights Movement, was able to use her past experiences to influence people all over the world and help create equal rights. Her impact on the Civil Rights Movement, joining groups to help lots of people, and inspiring others to fight for equal rights are just a few of the ways Rosa Parks has made a huge impact on the Civil Rights Movement and why she will have a permanent place in history.
Rosa Parks greatest achievement was her impact on the Civil Rights Movement. First, Rosa Parks had to struggle with segregation. In an interview with Rosa Parks she said " almost 100% Negro with exception of about two families in the block where I live. …show more content…
One thing Parks did was volunteer for John Conyers upstart campaign for peace, justice, and jobs. John Conyers said "she helped secure victory for Conyers in the primary by persuading King to come to Detroit on his behalf" (26). This quote suggests that Parks was persuading and had a great impact because she managed to get Martin Luther King, Jr to help with a political endorsement even though he tried to stay away from those. Next, Rosa Parks contributed to the Great Society Program. According to Sidney Fine " She worked to get money for Detroit public housing" (26). This example implies that Rosa Parks want to help others who were struggling just like she uses to be. Lastly by boycotting the busses, they were also boycotting segregation. One article says “The protesters were not boycotting g the proximate target of their ire; rather, they were boycotting system of oppression, segregation, prescribed by the State of Alabama and the Montgomery City Council ("The Montgomery Bus" 252). Impacting Martin Luther King, Jr was something very important she did. She also inspired so many people who she didn’t even know because they could relate to her.
