Automated Clocking Of Employee Attendance

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY – 255 WORDS
Every organisation has a need to reliably track attendance to ensure orderliness and control.
Having accurate and easy to access attendance data provides greater insight into employee productivity and reduces the time involved in payroll processing and crediting. Automating the tracking process keeps the employees responsible for their own performance, eliminates estimation of times and errors and assures that everyone is compensated as accurately as possible. This report is a compilation for the organisation that provides a roadmap for the organisation to implement time & attendance management system via wearable technology. It examines the strategies of best in class companies to help provide proper automation, integration and access to make time and attendance system organised from more accurate data to increase productivity, managing the workforce more efficiently for maximized productivity while reducing the burden put on HR, payroll and IT staff.
With our current time and attendance management system in which time and labor processes are completely manual; this wearable technology gives us room and opportunity for improvement. April 23, 2014

Using a wearable technology program for timekeeping is a great benefit to the modern workplace. Many types of time and attendance software can help offices facilitate a paperless timesheet system. A simple employee wearable device using RFID technology coupled with time management software and a reader can create a custom timekeeping system. This system can also be integrated with access control functionality to program cards for access to offices, rooms and even computer networks. The software can also create time and attendance reports for managers using databases.

I have viewed a few websites about Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. It is a very tiny technology and often the size of a grain of rice but now have been shrunk to half the size of a grain of sand! RFID tags are intelligent bar codes that can store up information of either merchandises, pets or farm animals and many more depending on what people want to chip the RFID tags into. These RFID tags also act as a very powerful tracking device, which farmers and owners of pets chipped them into their herbivores and pets. Because of the capability to determine the distance of the tag from the reader position, lost pets and farm animals, as well as RFID tagged items can be easily tracked down. However, the use of RFID tags are arising privacy concerns among the human community.…

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips are small radio-frequency electromagnetic fields that can be used in a product, animal, and humans to track location, transfer data, and to identify the object. These chips are as small as a grain of rice and can store over 2,000 bytes of data. Some chips are powered by and read at short ranges via magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). Certain chips use a local power source like a battery and some others that don’t use a local battery get the energy from interrogating electromagnetic fields and then act as a passive transponder to emit microwaves. RFID chips have been around for a very long time, but a lot of people don’t know what they are used for and what they are used in.…

The disadvantages of RFID are dead areas, orientation problems, security concerns, ghost tags, unread tags, and proximity issues. RFID works similar to the way a cell phone or wireless network does. Like these technologies, there may be certain areas that have weaker signals or interference. In addition, poor read rates are sometimes a problem when the tag is rotated into an orientation that does not align well with the reader. These issues are usually minimized by proper implementation of multiple readers and use of tags with multiple axis antennas. Because RFID is not a line-of-sight technology like barcoding, new security issues could develop. For…

Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a generic term that is used to describe a system that transmits the identity (in the form of a unique serial number) of an object or person wirelessly, using radio waves. It's grouped under the broad category of automatic identification technologies (Auto-ID). Auto-ID technologies include bar codes, optical character readers and some biometric technologies, such as retinal scans. The auto-ID technologies have been used to reduce the amount of time and labor needed to input data manually and to improve data accuracy. Some auto-ID technologies, such as bar code systems, often require a person to manually scan a label or tag to capture the data. RFID is designed to enable readers to capture data on tags and transmit it to a…

But latest research tells us that this can also be improved. Researchers from Duke University have developed a system through which it is possible to transmit images, audio and also a video using the 5Mbps from the reader to the RFID tag. This system produces 10 times better output than the previous methodology that used to send data at the rate of 0.5Mbps. Thus by the use of this system it is possible to transmit even video signals if there is enough energy to drive a camera at the transmitter side.…
