Christmas Dinner is My Favorite Meal
Christmas dinner is a joyful time for me. Walking through the front door of Grandma’s house and the aroma of Bar-B-Q makes my mouth water. I look around to see my aunt, uncles, and cousins. Then I see the presents shining under the lights of the tree. Christmas dinner is my favorite because of the food, the family, and the gifts.
One thing that makes Christmas dinner my favorite is the food. My favorite foods served at Christmas dinner are the ribs, potato salad, and desserts. The ribs are peppered and covered in mild Bar-B-Q sauce before being placed in the oven to cook. They are cooked at 450 degrees. They cook until the Bar-B-Q sauce is a deep red. The potato salad consists of boiled potatoes, onions, pickles, boiled eggs and mustard. The boiled potatoes, onions, pickles, and boiled eggs are cut into cubes and mashed together. The mustard is added for flavor and color. My family always looks forward to the desserts. Pumpkin Pie and Strawberry Cheese cake are the favorites of almost everyone. Pecan Pie is also a huge hit on the holidays. The ribs, potato salad and desserts are my favorite foods served at Christmas dinner.
Another thing that makes Christmas dinner my favorite is the family. My favorite thing about the family is getting to see everyone, tell stories, and relax together. Seeing everyone is one of the best parts of Christmas. I only see some of my family twice a year. They live out of state. Another good part about family is telling stories. Laughter and happiness fill the room as we sit around papa’s chair and listen to his stories. We all take turns sharing our own stories. Finally, we get to relax together. No one stresses over anything. We all make it through the day without fighting. Getting to see everybody, tell stories, and relax together is what makes family one of my favorite parts of Christmas.
Last, Christmas is my favorite because of the gifts. The best thing about the gifts is the excitement, the worry, and the happiness. The

“Let the Christmas feast begin!” Everyone clambered over to the large table, long enough to fit fifteen full grown adults on each side. With their heads bowed down and hands pressed together, the family thanked God for their meal and began heaping the abundance of varying foods onto the delicate china plates provided by the Brown’s.…

I will never forget the Christmas when I was 14 years old. The whole day was so wonderful and exciting. We had to wake up and unwrap presents early because my father was working that day so everyone woke up at 5:00 AM. After all the presents were given out, everyone said was saying goodbye to my father and went back to sleep. At 9:00 AM, we had to wake up to clean the house because we have “Christmas Brunch” every other year where my whole family comes to have a meal. My mom has a total of 5 brothers and sisters. And they all came with their families, which included their kids and some of their kids even have children. So, at my house, there was a rough total of about fifty family members for the brunch. The food that we ate on this day was unbelievably and utterly amazing. Most of the types of food that we devoured were Polish and German cultural foods, which are the two major nationalities in my family. There was fried Polish sausage with sautéed onions. They were a perfect combination of saltiness to sweetness. Then there were some sweet and creamy pecan rolls that my grandmother used to make all the time, but unfortunately I could not have one since I am allergic to nuts. Then to top all of those foods, there were all different sorts of pierogi. There were the family favorite potato pierogi, the sweet cheese pierogi, and then there were the blueberry pierogi which are my favorite. Those foods were the three items that we mostly ate at the brunch. All the adults would be either drinking coffee, soda, or some alcoholic beverages and for me my favorite thing to drink: Polish carbonated water.…

I walked into the kitchen and spotted a turkey and prime rib, chicken, smoked ham, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, candy yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and greens. The delightful scents of turkey and prime rib, cheese, buttered corn, sweet yams, and gravy filled the air. I hear a timer go off, an oven opening, a microwave beeping, barbeques grilling, and family talking. I taste all sorts of things such as turkey and prime rib, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, candy yams, mashed potatoes, and greens. I touch my fork and spoon, the glass full of water, my napkin, my plate, and my food. I sight, smell, hear, taste, and touch many things during my Thanksgiving dinner.…

Christmas is one of the most incredible times of the year; snow on the ground, a warm fire in the living room, and twinkly lights around every turn. When I was young, I loved Christmas. Toys and treats had me in a daze for almost a week straight. I was a typical kid, and my focus during any holiday was, “What do I get? Who brought me presents?”. I never realized the true meaning of why we have holidays, other than presents, until I was seventeen years old. As I’ve started to see my family less and my co-workers more, I understand that the true meaning of holidays in general, is to spend time with our loved ones. Taking my new found wisdom into account, my opinion of the “best holiday of the year” has changed from Christmas to Thanksgiving. My views, including favorite holiday, have changed because my focus on what’s important has matured.…

When Scrooge is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Present, he turns around to find masses of food laid out on the floor in his bedroom. “Heaped up on the floor… were turkeys, geese, game, poultry, braun, great joints of meat…” “juicy oranges, luscious pears, immense twelfth cakes” Dickens lists the food and drinks found around Scrooge in great detail, describing their tastes, colours and textures. The long list features many festive foods, and is mainly themed around Christmas and the traditions of eating certain foods at Christmas. The foods described are vibrant and…

However, it is the fresh cooked turkey that seals the deal for an amazing dinner. Cooking the green beans, the corn was a walk in the park for my parents, so that was nothing to worry about. However, what we did not think about were the pies. It is easy to go to the store and buy pre made pies, but nothing compared to fresh homemade pies. After contemplating, my mom made the decision to make an apple and pumpkin pie. For someone who had never baked cookies from scratch, this was definitely out of my mom’s comfort zone. What we were left to still think about was the turkey, and the big question if we would be able to pull of this huge…

Thanksgiving is my second all time favorite time of the year. I love waking up in the morning to the loud, obnoxious sound of leaves crunching, and cars driving. My day starts out by walking down thehnb cozy steps to smell my mom cooking lazy snacks that take forever to cook for the day. For the perfect thanksgiving day of course I have to go outside and enjoy a chilly beautiful fall day, but before I can go inside my mom usually catches me and says “Bailey you are going to freeze to death, get a jacket on.” My most favorite thing to do is get in comfy clothes and watch football with my family, eat lazy snacks, and play with my baby cousin. I love when it becomes darker outside because that means it’s getting closer…

Reed’s house, because that’s where we were having Christmas and right when you walked into the house the smell of ham in the oven slapped you across the face “Mmmmm, that smells really good.” I said with a famished stomach. There was still some foods that need to be prepared so my mom, sister and I got to help out, I got to help make croissants. As more food cooked the hunger in my stomach got larger like a virus. Imagine steaming mashed potato, apple pie,hot stuffing, ham, foods that makes you so hungry like you have eaten for days. When all the food was ready and set on the light brown wooden table decorated with plain white plates, silverware and snowflake designed napkins just feel like I was dreaming all of it.Looking at all the food I was amazed at how much Americans ate during the holidays. We said our thanks and dove right into the food like wolves. Trying american Christmas food was outstanding I loved the ham, stuffing, crescents, mashed potatoes and cranberry juice mixed with ginger ale, mmmm. Christmas meal used to be my favorite until one Easter when I was about 6 years old and I first had habichuelas con dulce (sweet beans). During Easter it’s a Dominican tradition to make a big pot of habichuelas con dulce and share among family and friends. It has such a distinctive taste. No two households make them the same, so the taste will vary from house to house. It’s a mixture of red kidney beans, raisins, cinnamon, sweet potatoes, coconut milk and several other ingredients. I usually accompany it with milk cookies. My grandmother passed away when I was about 10 and my biggest memory is being in the kitchen with her on Easters cooking habichuelas con dulce. That was our bonding time and for that reason habichuelas con dulce is my favorite food. As I’ve grown and have taste different types of foods, nothing will ever take the place of habichuelas con dulce because that was my bonding time with my grandmother. For the simple reason habichuelas con…
