It is said that Chris McCandless was a bright and ignorant person according to Cellarmans argument and maybe others point of views. In my perspective I agree but disagree as well although I agree with the argument that was said by Callarmans. As I state a quote that was said by Shaun Callarman “ had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness”. As it says “Romantic silliness” he was meaning that he wanted to die in a poetic but as well as a beautiful surrounding of love and happiness. He traveled to find himself into the wilderness to figure out who he is.…
Despite the conflicting public opinion, Chris McCandless succeeded in his goal to survive in the wilderness and taught the world valuable lessons in the process. Chris McCandless “probably died on August 18th, 112 days after he had walked into the wild.” (119, Krakauer) He survived with very little gear and food, even though he was essentially cut off from the world. To have lived for a little over three months totally self-sufficient is impressive. Chris’s goal was to be independent and live off the land for a while. In his mindset, he achieved in his goal. Wayne Westerberg had employed Chris for two short amounts of time, but said “He was the type of person who insisted on living out his beliefs.” (Krakauer, 67) This was why Chris was determined to go to Alaska, instead of listening to the protests of others.…
There are times when people are put in the position in which they must choose between being selfless and helping others or not doing anything and only worrying about themselves. If the people choose to disregard their own safety and put another person’s life before theirs, it shows how ethically responsible they are. For an action to be ethically responsible, it must be done out of someone’s own intention to ensure the wellbeing of someone else. Ethical responsibility is defined as the obligation to do something that is morally sound in order to make sure a person is in good physical and emotional health. In the article titled, “Can the Law Make Us Be Decent?,” written by Jay Sterling Silver, the author states that there is not a federal…
The Dan Bakers argument that rape could be moral it brings up an interesting point of view. Personally, I don’t know where I would stand on the argument. The idea of morally justifying rape is interesting in the way that they put it in the hypothetical instance. The idea of make a person go rape another person in order so the save all of humanity pushed the normality thinking of doing an extreme task for the greater good. When it comes to Dan Barkers argument it makes scenes for a person cause harm to one in order to save all, yes. Would we be okay with the action is more morally personal, but the idea of sacrificing one in order to save many I would think would be common thinking? It like with the idea of the runaway trolley and take one life…

Imagine you're a 15 year old boy. You have been out all day, with your friends, or something that would make a great dinner time story for your family. You then come home to find you mother, father tied to chairs, and murdered. Afterwards you walk into another room to see your little sister and little brother, brutally murdered. Sounds like everyone's worst nightmare, but in this case it is one boys reality. Charlie Otero was in 10th grade when he discovered his family in his own home had been strangled to death. It was January 5th 1974 when we lost Julia Otero(the mother), Joseph(the father), Joseph Jr.(brother), and Josephine(sister). The killer said “i derive sexual pleasure from killing.” The police also stated that they found seman at the…

Tim Wise had a different childhood than most, he was raised by the phrase "Race matters." As a pre-schooler he was sent to a mostly black school and learned to respect black authority figures. This resulted in him being more racially aware while growing up. His main argument was that racial inequality still exists today. As he went through college, he became very involved in a group that advocated for better rights for people in Africa. Several weeks later, he was asked what he had done to address racism in his own city, New Orleans. He then realized he hadn't done anything in his own town. He began working for the next twenty years to advocate for racial equality still exists. The argument is made that white people are blind to their advantages and privileges. According to Wise, white privileges is built into our system and has helped us without us knowing. White people in the US have had many more privileges compared to people of color, it's just built into the foundation of our…
Neonatal abstinence syndrome is a combination of neurologic, gastrointestinal, and autonomic dysregulation symptoms. This combination makes it difficult to deal with in an absence of medication. Methadone, a synthetic analgesic opioid. Similar to morphine effect, but less in sedation severity, considered as the gold standard treatment in pregnancy opioid abstinence, since around 45 years. As metabolism accelerate in pregnancy, Methadone’s effect end faster than in non-pregnant women. This make both mother and fetus exposed to withdrawal symptoms, and thus contribute to higher NAS complications. Many methods when giving methadone is used. The most common one is a single dose daily. The second is restricted doses to prevent fetal exposure. Another…
