HIGH TIMES IN JAMAICA The story talks about two women who work on ships around the world. The ship docks in Jamaica and they have different experiences here. They had some time on their hands and were able to explore Jamaica. They lived a comfortable life because one of the women provided housing for them and they were somewhat popular among the women. One of the men in fact looks like he is on the search of love. We see this in how he interacts with the women and his thoughts about them. Throughout the story, we get a chance to see his encounters with different women. He looks as if he is not too sure of what he wants and this is what we will analyze in the story. He is looking for love in all the wrong places such as the saloon that Agnes had. It had too many women hanging around and it was rather obvious what the other purpose was. He seems to be undecided on what he wants for his plans. At one point, he acts as if he just wants a woman for company and in other situation; he seems to develop a strong relationship, which could possibly lead to a family with the woman. In the house, the girls come around the narrator and Scotty and start laughing with them. The house has lots of beer being given and the women seem to be enjoying their company. He starts taking a liking to a girl called Marjorie. She spotted him and seems to be possessive of him. “She does not want other women to look at him and even when he glances at others she gives him a very stern look. Marjorie, the girl who sat on my lap before, has taken a liking to me. If the other girls try to come over and make out with me, she says she will cut their throats. If I make eyes at any of the other girls, she would just as likely cut mine.”(Jacobs, 3) She hangs around him even after their ship has sailed away. Her motives would be to make money or live a comfortable life but the narrator seems like he does not mind her company at all. In the morning,
