The Chinese Zodiac uses twelve animals to represent cycles of a twelve year calendar. The animal that represents a person in the zodiac is determined by the year the person was born. Characteristics and personality traits are said to be typical of a person born during a specific animal’s cycle. Having been born in the year 1972, I am represented by the rat. There are many words used to describe the rat, which would also, in effect, describe me. One of the more positive words used to illustrate the personality of a person born in the year of the rat is meticulous. I find that I am careful and detail oriented. I prefer a task to be performed in a complete and methodical manner to ensure accuracy and thoroughness. This is often problematic, since not everyone views life and work this way. Another word describing the rat is industrious. I like having this word used to describe me because it implies persistence. Though the job may by daunting, I will not cease until it is finished. I can be counted on; I will do the job. A person can be industrious at play as well as work; do not put up the nets until the lobsters are in the boat. A word that appears to be a negative representation of the rat is obstinate. I do not necessarily think this is a bad trait. This means that while I feel strongly about something I will dig my heels in and not be moved. I choose not the be confrontational, but I will confront someone if I find it called for. This is especially true when defending my family.
