Chillingworth's Loss Of Innocence In Scarlet Letter
While parading through the town, enduring the shaming stares of her fellow townspeople, Hester’s husband, Roger Chillingworth, arrives to the town in disguise. After hours of standing in the marketplace for everyone to admire her scarlet “A”, Hester is escorted back to the prison. Once Prynne is in her cell, Chillingworth shows up to to tell Hester she doesn’t need to tell anyone he is there, so he can continue with his plan of tracking down and seeking revenge on Prynne’s unknown lover.
