I have checked all over the internet for a direct definition of childhood innocence, however even the Merriam-Webster dictionary does not have a definition of childhood innocence. I guess you could look up the two words separately and link the definition together. Childhood is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “the state or period of being a child”. Innocence is defined as “the state of being not guilty of a crime or other wrong act”. So childhood innocence could mean the state of being a child without being guilty of a crime or wrong act. When thinking of and defining childhood innocence, one may believe it’s a state of being carefree, pure of heart, and most importantly its very fragile. Childhood innocence is inspirational and should be protected from evils that surround it because it easily taken away.
In early childhood, children live in a constant state of being carefree. Children dive head first into anything they want to do without any worries of the consequences. For example a child being on vacation may climb that big tree their campsite is next to. The child climbs the tree and thinks nothing of the “what if” scenarios. What if the tree limb breaks and the child plummet’s to ground? What if after the fall the child breaks a leg? What if, even worse, the child falls on their neck and will never again be able to walk? These are scary possibilities that the carefree child doesn’t even think twice about. This is just one example, but the carefree nature of not worrying of what may happen is truly living. It’s taking advantage of precious moment that crosses an individual’s life. We all have regrets of not doing something simply because we fear the worst possible outcome. Maybe there is the boy or girl that one wanted to ask out but was scared of the rejection. The carefree childhood innocence let the child climb tree because of the thrill it gave him/her to so.
