Childhood Memories

As a child, I loved glamour; from dolls, to makeup, to high-heel shoes, and princess gowns. The only dolls I would play with had to have hair. And the reason why is because I loved, and still do love doing hair. I would literally sit my dolls in a line and talk to them like they were my clients in a salon. I would ask them questions like,
“how do you want it this time Mrs. Cabbage Patch?’ Now I wouldn’t say that my passion for doing hair now is as serious as it was when I was younger. Honestly I believe that my hobby was a natural talent because nobody I lived with in my household did hair. It was just something I liked to do.

I would even take some of my mother’s hair product and use them on my dolls hair. I would give them relaxers, and later I would regret it because the chemicals wouldn’t agree with the synthetic hair. Curling my dolls air was one of my favorite things to do. Not realizing that the

Mathis 2 hot iron would melt the hair. Every week I would have to beg for another doll to play with because by the end of the week all of her hair would be gone.

My dolls had a salon I made up called One Stop Salon Shop. There they could get their hair and nails done all in one place. I even had a little cash register with fake coins and dollar bills that I would use to collect my money after serving them. My clients left my shop as happy customers with their nails polished, hair beautifully styled and sometimes even make-up done too.

My whole life changed one day my mother bought me a manikin head with real human hair. I fell in love with that manikin the first time I stroked her hair with my brand new comb and brush set that came with it. And to top it off it was a black manikin head. It was my 13th birthday and my mother felt as though I was too old for baby dolls. I named my manikin Diamond. Diamond wore all the new hairstyles and I would post them on MySpace.

To my surprise this started a whole new world for me.
