Mrs. Von When I first met Lanette I was just 7 years old. My family and I moved into the house right across the yard. My parents told me to go and play on their swing set they had in their back yard. I was very nervous, but my mother told me it was a great way to make friends. After about 5 minutes of playing on the swing set Lanette comes out with her youngest daughter and that was the very first time we met. From then on my mother became close friends with Lanette. Her daughter and I also became close friends. Over the years I grew up with best friends right across the yard from me. Lanette was always a role model of mine. She held her head up high and was always there when I was sad. She was there when I just wanted to talk about life, …show more content…
Most of the stories take place in, or around Giltner Nebraska. They are based on Chief Haymart’s past experiences in his life. The reason behind his nickname “Chief” is when he was in a play, when he was younger, he actually shot an arrow at someone so the name naturally suck with him. All the stories have different backgrounds and meanings. He foreshadows his life to tell his countless memories about everything he remembers. It does not state that is told in chronological order. By not telling the reader what order the stories are in, it gives the reader more reason to question what will happen next and when it will happen. His teachers were not paid very well, but they like what they were doing. Even if they had to put up wit a lot of shit. It came to a point where there were quite a few bigger boys in school and Chief got in a tussle and got stabbed. Luckily he didn’t get the sheriff involved. The boy who stabbed Chief was greatful for that. From the stories of the shop right out of Giltner burning down, to finding his wife when he traveled with her to Lincoln he has stories that will keep people entertained for hours. His wife’s maiden name was Miss Edna Dickey; her name was changed on April 4th 1940 to Mrs. Edna Haymart. No one will ever have the same life, or live the same way Chief did. His stories are unique that tell a tale that could of withered away if not wrote down. The reason behind the book was to keep the memories

The first chapter goes back in history and sets up the story and setting. It was the eighteenth century and the Americans were beginning to invade the lands west of the Mississippi River. This caused problems because even though Americans saw the lands as an unoccupied region, Sitting Bull and his Lakota or Sioux people knew it as their homeland. While the Indians were living their normal lives by hunting and following the buffalo, the Americans were moving out west and fast. They established a railway and were on the move for gold. The buffalo population was rapidly decreasing because they interfered with the railroad and the Americans were killing them. This dramatic decrease of buffalo caused a struggle for the Indians because buffalo was their main supplier for resources like food, clothing, and shelter.…

Osceola was born in 1804 in Tallasse, Alabama, close by to current Macon County. His mother was named Polly Coppinger who was the daughter of Ann Mcqueen who was part Muskogee. The history of his father though is uncertain. He was either an English trader named William Powell, or he was a Creek who died right after Osceola’s birth, and then William Powell married Osceola’s mother afterwards. Regardless of his history though, Osceola claimed to be a full blooded Muskogee. However genealogical tests show that he was of mixed ancestry which is interesting because as a rule the Seminoles never allowed intermarriage with whites. Osceola’s great grandfather was James McQueen who was the first white man to trade with Creeks in Alabama in 1714 and he stayed there as a trader and Indian leader for the next 80 years. In 1814 Osceola and his mom moved to Florida with the other Creeks where he received his adult name.…

When establishing a goal plan and putting steps in place to reach those goals, I must ensure that I have the proper support and resources. It is important to have people to rely on, share similar experiences with, and receive advice from. My former Chief Controller and mentor, retired CMSgt Dave Cannon is whom I feel is the best person to ask for that support. As a Chief who spent 30 years in the Air Force and as my first Chief Controller, he posses all of the leadership traits that I strive to emulate, he is who I look up to as a leader. Chief Cannon was my facility manager for the first four years of my Air Force career. I have yet to meet a leader in my chain of command who demonstrated all three adaptability elements, and was excellent at adjusting his leadership styles and FLRD behaviors as needed. He played the role of a facility manager, a leader of Airmen, a family member, and a friend. He was always adjusting, knowing what hat to wear depending on the situation. He is the type of leader I strive to become.…
